JoJo Siwa and her boyfriend Chris Hughes have sparked speculation about a potential engagement after being together for eight months.
The Dance Moms alum has announced that she will not be returning to the United States for Christmas, opting instead to celebrate the holiday with Hughes’ family in the UK.
Siwa and Hughes first crossed paths on the UK reality show Celebrity Big Brother in April, just eight months ago.
Hughes, known for his stint on Love Island, and Siwa quickly formed a friendship. Although Siwa was dating Kath Ebbs at the time, their relationship ended shortly after she left the Big Brother house.
In a matter of weeks, Siwa and Hughes confirmed their relationship, marking the beginning of their long-distance romance.
Now, the couple is taking a significant step by spending their first Christmas together.
“It’s my first Christmas away from my family – and in England, too,” Siwa, 22, told The Sun. Meanwhile, her 32-year-old boyfriend joked about needing to impress her mom Jess with a ‘lovely present’.
As the festive season approaches, engagement discussions have emerged. Hughes mentioned taking a ‘sentimental route’ with gifts, and Siwa seemed particularly enthused about the prospect of receiving jewelry.
When asked if he would propose with a ring, Hughes commented: “Not just yet. You always get people who get engaged at Christmas. I see it on Instagram every year.
“I like the idea of it not being at a time where it could be expected.”
Hughes also shared his thoughts on Siwa proposing to him, after she humorously suggested she might do so herself if he waited ‘seven years’ to pop the question.
“I don’t know,” he confessed. “I’ve spoken to people about this before you, obviously. And I actually said, ‘I think if I was proposed to, that would make me really uncomfortable’.”
Recently, there was some confusion when Hughes referred to himself as ‘single’ on UK television, leading to speculation among fans.
During a MasterChef episode that aired in late November, Hughes said: “So, I live on my own. I’ve been single for three years, so it’s not like I’m cooking for anyone.”
Siwa’s fans were quick to express concern about the status of their relationship. However, it was clarified that the episode was filmed before his participation in CBB.
To dispel the breakup rumors, Siwa posted an anniversary message on Instagram, stating: “6 months, wouldn’t trade one day for anything,” and expressed that her heart has been full for the past six months.
