Joker 2’s Catastrophic Financial Impact on Warner Bros After ‘Terrible’ Sequel Flops

The staggering expenses associated with the production of Joker 2 have been disclosed, indicating a significant financial commitment from Warner Bros.

Joker: Folie à Deux, the highly anticipated follow-up to the 2019 Joker, was released earlier this month amid much anticipation.

There was considerable excitement and anticipation surrounding the sequel, yet the film’s performance has been disappointing, to say the least.

Currently, the movie holds a mere 32 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes, and some moviegoers have left cinemas feeling dissatisfied with the film.

Clearly, the Joker sequel has proven to be a box office letdown, with Variety reporting that the film has earned $51.5 million domestically and $165 million globally within its first two weeks.

Projections from Variety suggest Joker 2 might generate around $65 million domestically, while international earnings could reach between $210 million and $215 million by the time its theatrical run concludes.

This situation poses significant challenges for Warner Bros., given that Joker 2 reportedly cost $200 million to produce, with an additional $100 million spent on global marketing and distribution.

Sources close to Warner Bros., according to Variety, are optimistic that the film will at least break even, although the company was likely aiming for a substantial profit.

Following the sequel’s release in cinemas, numerous film enthusiasts have taken to social media to express their opinions.

It’s evident that most users on X are notably unimpressed by the film.

One individual remarked: “Giving Joker 2 a go because a) the first one was decent and b) I thought the reviews would surely be dramatic… F**k me

“Do NOT let your curiosity make you watch it. It’s genuinely the worst film I have ever watched.”

Another comment read: “I watched Joker 2 tonight and it is my least favourite movie ever, there is no redeeming qualities, this movie is a complete piece of shit in every way. awful script, terrible performances, everything looks so boring. A completely hollow movie. it hates everyone who buys a ticket.”

Nevertheless, not all feedback is negative, as one five-star review praised the film: “It’s probably not for everybody. Those who have depth and have the ability to lose themselves in the story will love it. The acting was phenomenal.”

Joker: Folie à Deux is now showing in cinemas.
