Justin Bieber’s representatives have addressed the reports regarding the singer’s alleged financial troubles following the cancellation of his world tour. They assert that he will not be swayed by these claims.
In September 2022, Justin Bieber announced that he would be canceling his world tour after being diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome. Earlier that year, he shared his health struggles on Instagram, explaining that he was unable to complete the North American portion of his Justice World Tour. Under the advice of his doctors, family, and team, he decided to cancel the tour.
In the following year, Bieber also canceled his scheduled performances in Europe, Australia, and the US. A recent article by the Hollywood Reporter, published on April 16, suggested that Bieber has accrued significant debt due to these cancellations.
The article also mentioned that over 100 tour crew members were laid off as a result of the tour’s cancellation. It was alleged that Bieber received a $40 million advance from his tour promoter but, due to not fulfilling the tour dates, he now owes a substantial debt to the promoter.
According to the article, anonymous sources claimed that part of this debt, reportedly over $20 million, was covered by a loan from Bieber’s manager at the time, and Bieber has yet to repay it fully.
The 31-year-old’s team has responded to these claims, telling the outlet: “Any source that is trying to sell you a story about alleged financial distress … either doesn’t understand the entertainment industry or, more likely, is trying to paint an unflattering portrait of Justin, which bears no resemblance to reality.”
His team also released a statement to US Weekly stating: “This is just clickbait stupidity based on unnamed — and clearly ill-informed — ‘sources,’ disappointed that they no longer work with Justin.
“As Justin forges his own way forward, these unnecessary stories and inaccurate assumptions will continue. But they won’t deter him from staying committed to following the right path.”
Bieber has been open about managing his condition, sharing personal footage on social media to give fans insight into Ramsay Hunt syndrome.
As explained by the Cleveland Clinic, Ramsay Hunt syndrome or herpes zoster oticus occurs when the varicella-zoster virus reactivates and affects the facial nerves near the inner ear. It can cause facial weakness or stiffness, slurred speech, and difficulties with facial expressions.
The symptoms might also include drooping or paralysis on one side of the face, which can affect speech and eating.
When Bieber announced the cancellation, he spoke about his exhaustion and the necessity of prioritizing his health. A video he shared highlighted the severity of his condition, showing his facial paralysis.
He said: “I wish this wasn’t the case, but obviously, my body’s telling me that I gotta slow down. I hope you guys understand and I’ll be using this time to just rest and relax and get back to 100 percent so that I can do what I was born to do.”
“I’m gonna get better and I’m doing all these facial exercises to get my face back to normal and it will go back to normal, it’s just time and we don’t know much time it’s gonna be.”
