Reports suggest that Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco became engaged in August, but chose not to announce it publicly due to concerns related to Justin Bieber.
Selena Gomez revealed her engagement to Benny Blanco on Instagram on December 12.
According to a source, the Only Murders in the Building actress actually got engaged to the music producer months earlier but delayed the announcement to avoid potential conflicts with other news.
Gomez’s Instagram post included four pictures to announce the engagement.
The images featured her ring on her hand, her sitting in a garden admiring the ring, a selfie showing her hand and ring, and a final shot of Gomez in Blanco’s arms while he kisses her head.
Her caption read: “Forever begins now..”
Despite sharing the announcement recently, a source indicates that Blanco proposed much earlier.
An insider supposedly informed Mail Online that the couple’s engagement took place in August.
The delay in going public with the news was reportedly influenced by Justin Bieber and Hailey Bieber’s announcement of their first child’s birth in the same month.
The source suggests Gomez wanted to avoid any association with Bieber’s news to prevent speculation that she was trying to overshadow it.
UNILAD has contacted Gomez’s representatives for a response.
Though unconfirmed, the decision to postpone the engagement announcement to avoid social media backlash resonates, given Gomez’s previous comments on the negative impact of internet trolls on her mental health.
Social media users have speculated about a supposed feud between Gomez and the Biebers due to past relationships, despite efforts to move on.
The situation led Gomez to address the issue on TikTok, urging kindness and consideration for mental health.
She expressed: “Please be kind and consider others’ mental health. My heart has been heavy, and I only want good for everyone. All my love.”
Hailey Bieber also voiced her stance against hateful comments directed at Gomez, emphasizing that such behavior does not align with her values.
She stated: “If you’re leaving mean or rude comments on my behalf on anyone’s posts, just know that I don’t want that, nor do I ever or will I ever support or condone hateful, mean, or nasty comments. Doing that is not supporting me.
“If you are participating in that you are a part of a culture that I want no part of. Please be nice or don’t say anything.”
