A video of former Vice President Kamala Harris cautioning citizens about President Donald Trump’s purported military intentions has reemerged following the deployment of the National Guard to manage the riots in Los Angeles.
The unrest has been ongoing since Friday, June 6, at the Federal Building in downtown Los Angeles, triggered by raids conducted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
In reaction to the events, President Trump, having started his second presidential term in January, directed the arrest of protestors and moved to deploy 700 Marines along with mobilizing an additional 2,000 National Guard members to restore order in the city.
A legal conflict is brewing, as Trump did not inform California Governor Gavin Newsom prior to the deployment, leading the Governor to announce a lawsuit against the Trump administration for its application of force.
Amidst the turmoil in LA, a video clip from Harris’s tenure as Vice President, in which she accuses Trump of seeking ‘unchecked power’, has gone viral on Twitter. The post accompanying the clip states: “She *warned* us in just 3 minutes.” View the clip below:
The post further elaborates: “Federalizing the National Guard in California isn’t ‘normal’. It’s the first move. Kamala Harris called it: Trump wants unchecked power and praised Hitler’s generals.”
In the resurfaced video, Harris recounts a conversation with Trump’s former chief of staff, John Kelly, a ‘retired four-star general’, who allegedly confirmed to her that Trump ‘wanted generals like Adolf Hitler had’.
She states: “Donald Trump said that because he does not want a military that is loyal to the United States Constitution. He wants a military that is loyal to him.
“He wants a military who will be loyal to him, personally, one that will obey his orders even when he tells them to break the law or abandon their oath to the Constitution of the United States.
“In just the past week [late October 2024], Donald Trump has repeatedly called his fellow Americans the enemy from within, and even said that he would use the United States military to go after American citizens.
“And let’s be clear about who he considers to be the enemy from within, anyone who refuses to bend a knee or dares to criticize him would qualify, in his mind, as the enemy within, like judges, like journalists, like non-partisan election officials.
“It is deeply troubling and incredibly dangerous that Donald Trump would invoke Adolf Hitler, the man who is responsible for the deaths of 6 million Jews and hundreds of thousands of Americans.”
The Democratic Party’s candidate labeled Trump as a ‘fascist’, asserting that he had become ‘increasingly unhinged and unstable’, and warned that in a second term, ‘people like John Kelly would not be there to act as safeguards against his tendencies and actions’.
She concluded: “Those who once tried to stop him from pursuing his worst impulses would no longer be there and no longer be there to rein him in.
“So the bottom line is this, we know what Donald Trump wants. He wants unchecked power.”
