Kamala Harris reveals unusual reason for choosing wired earphones, sparking debate

Kamala Harris has unintentionally started a debate online over her preference for wired earphones, revealing on a talk show that she chooses them for a significant reason.

Remember when wired earphones and various headphones were all we had?

It was a common struggle to find them hopelessly tangled in bags or pockets, requiring patience and skill to untangle them.

However, the advent of technology introduced us to a world of wireless devices.

This advancement freed us from wearing cumbersome accessories, making activities like workouts and running more convenient while enjoying music.

Despite the widespread shift to wireless, Kamala Harris, former presidential candidate, has chosen to stick with wired earphones.

But what’s her reasoning?

During an appearance on Stephen Colbert’s late-night talk show, she shared her reasons for staying with wired earphones, emphasizing her privacy concerns.

Harris argued that wired earphones provide better security than wireless options, making them preferable for those cautious about eavesdropping.

Her preference became public after a photo surfaced of her in casual attire, equipped with wired earphones, during a day of making over 100 calls as vice president.

She admitted facing some teasing for her choice but stands by them for their secure characteristics.

“I know I’ve been teased about this, but I like these kinds of earpods that have the thing [she points to the wire] because I served on the Senate Intelligence Committee,” she said.

“I have been in classified briefings, and I’m telling you, don’t be on the train using your earpods thinking somebody can’t listen to your conversation.”

She further emphasized, “I’m just telling you that it’s a little more secure.”

This isn’t Harris’s first mention of her wired earphone preference.

In 2021, as reported by Newsweek, she expressed concerns that Bluetooth headphones could be a ‘security risk.’

However, her stance has met with mixed reactions.

In the comments section of a video from The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, viewers had varied opinions on her wired earphone endorsement.

One commenter said, “It may be true. But last time I checked, they actually have a dedicated security chip. Versus the ones that have wires don’t.”

Another expressed confusion, “Did this make any sense to anyone else?”

A third countered, “The bluetooth connection on airpods is encrypted.”
