Kate Gosselin has spoken out publicly for the first time since her estranged son Collin published scathing allegations about their family.
The 51-year-old former TLC star posted a birthday tribute to her boyfriend Steve Neild on TikTok last week, and the comment section quickly filled with questions about Collin’s claims of childhood abuse. Gosselin, who has vehemently denied the allegations, responded directly to one supporter who praised her for making “sacrifices that no mama should have had to make alone.”
“I know who I am and my kids know who I truly am and to me, that’s all that matters,” she wrote on the platform. Gosselin agreed with another fan who noted that people unfamiliar with parenting a child with mental illness should count themselves lucky. “Thank you! Yes! They have NO idea how lucky they are if they have no idea what it’s like having a child or relative with mental illness,” she added.

Collin Gosselin, now 22, released his memoir “In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood” earlier this month. The book details what he describes as physical and emotional abuse throughout his upbringing, and claims his mother used money to manipulate his sister Hannah. He has not spoken to most of his siblings in approximately a decade.

“I love them very much, and I want them to know that what was done to us as children is not normal,” Collin shared earlier this month. In his memoir, he wrote, “I sincerely love all my siblings. If any of them ever read this, I hope they know that.”

The sextuplet has been estranged from Kate since 2016, when she sent him to live in a behavioral health institution at age 11 for alleged behavioral issues. His father Jon Gosselin ultimately secured legal and physical custody of Collin in 2018 after removing him from the facility. Jon also obtained custody of Hannah after she left Kate’s home. The remaining sextuplets — Aden, Joel, Alexis, and Leah — continued living with their mother, along with twins Mady and Cara.

Jon and Kate Gosselin became household names through TLC’s “Jon & Kate Plus 8,” which documented their lives raising twins and sextuplets from 2007 to 2017. The couple separated in 2009, and their custody arrangements have shifted multiple times in the years since, with Jon and Kate publicly feuding over parenting decisions and the children’s welfare.
Kate’s TikTok response marks her most direct public engagement with Collin’s allegations since the memoir’s release. While she has previously denied abuse claims through representatives, her personal replies to fans represent a more unfiltered approach to the renewed scrutiny.

Collin’s relationship with his siblings remains fractured, though he has expressed hope for reconciliation. His memoir represents the most detailed account yet of his perspective on the family’s reality television years and their aftermath.

The Gosselin family dynamics have been publicly contested for nearly two decades, with both parents and several children offering conflicting accounts of their private lives. Collin’s book adds a new layer to the ongoing narrative, one that Kate Gosselin now appears prepared to address directly with her online audience.

Jon Gosselin has separately indicated he believes he has legal grounds to sue his ex-wife over the alleged abuse of their son.
Kate Gosselin continues to maintain an active social media presence, with her most recent TikTok activity centered on personal milestones rather than family controversies.
