Katy Perry discusses ‘really tough’ short separation from Orlando Bloom

Katy Perry has opened up about her year-long breakup with her now-fiancé Orlando Bloom.

The ‘Firework’ singer and the Lord of The Rings actor are set to tie the knot, but as an often-quoted writer once noted, the course of true love never did run smooth.

Speaking on Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast, Perry shared how the couple first crossed paths at the Golden Globes, where Bloom ‘stole’ an In ‘N’ Out burger from her table, sparking their initial conversation.

“We’d met before then, but it really locked then,” the singer said. Perry mentioned she had ‘actually done a little spell’ before attending the event, using her crystals, writing down qualities she wanted in a partner, and ‘burning it under a full moon’.

“And it came. And we manifested it,” she said.

Despite their connection, Perry explained that they ‘weren’t really in it from day one’ and decided to part ways after a year.

While Bloom was ready for a relationship after ‘a huge time of celibacy and he had set intentions,’ Perry was ‘fresh out of a relationship’.

“I was like, ‘I can’t do this right now, I need to go and swim in a different pond.’ But I had yet to do some real work.”

Bloom had just attended a retreat focused on ‘rewiring the way you think about yourself’ and breaking ‘bad habits’. Upon his return, he ‘wasn’t playing that cat-mouse game anymore’.

“And I was like, ‘This is boring. I’m moving on.’ I was so used to this push-pull. […] I was playing games,” she said.

Perry experienced ‘a really tough year’ before going to the same retreat ‘towards the end of that year’ they were apart.

She added: “And then I got the tools and spoke the same language – and it changed my life. It saved my life. I would be dead without it. I would not be on this planet without that process and meditation.

“The noise got so large. When Witness came out and things started to shift and I thought I really loved myself and had that center but that core was created from outside validation, everything started changing and I went to this process […] and it helped me rewire how I think about myself.

“And it helped me connect my head to my heart. That’s even what this album is about.”

The couple reunited in 2018, got engaged the following year, and welcomed their daughter, Daisy Dove, in 2020.

Earlier in the podcast, Perry stated: “The more we do the work, the more we find the next level and sometimes we get stuck […] but we’re going to do it […] and that’s why we’re continuing in the relationship.”

She also shared a rather explicit detail about their love life, which certainly caught the attention of fans.
