Keith Urban speaks out on significant Nicole Kidman rumor following divorce news

Keith Urban has addressed the speculation surrounding the changes to his song lyrics.

Urban and Nicole Kidman, who have been together for nearly two decades, recently made headlines by announcing their decision to divorce.

The couple reportedly parted ways at the beginning of summer, with Kidman, known for her role in “Babygirl,” officially filing for divorce on September 30.

Kidman filed the divorce papers in a Tennessee court, citing ‘irreconcilable differences’ as the cause of their separation. According to BBC News, sources close to the couple revealed that Kidman was reluctant to end their marriage.

The internet was abuzz with rumors about the reasons behind their split, particularly after fans noted a change in the lyrics of one of Urban’s songs.

A video of Urban performing ‘The Fighter’ during his recent tour gained attention, a song he had once dedicated to Kidman.

The original lyrics say: “When they’re tryna get to you, baby, I’ll be the fighter.”

However, during a show, Urban altered the lyrics to: “When they’re tryna’ get to you, Maggie I’ll be your guitar player.”

This was a nod to his guitarist, Maggie Baugh, who shared the clip on Instagram with the caption: “Did he just say that.”

Urban faced criticism for this lyrical adjustment, with some labeling it as disrespectful to a song inspired by Kidman.

Urban clarified that changing lyrics is common and urged fans to “stop reading stuff into it.”

At his High and Alive World Tour finale in Nashville, Urban spoke before performing ‘You’ll Think Of Me,’ as reported by HELLO!.

“I’ve been covering it like this for a long time,” he explained. Urban then sang the line as ‘but I betcha’ think about me’ instead of ‘but you’ll think of me.’

PEOPLE noted that Urban has a history of altering the lyrics to this song.

In 2017, during a performance with Carrie Underwood at the CMT Music Awards, he sang: “Carrie Underwood, I’m gonna be your fighter!”
