Keith Urban’s country star friend reveals how he’s coping after ‘painful’ Nicole Kidman divorce

A close friend of Keith Urban has offered an update on how the singer is coping after ending his nearly two-decade marriage to Nicole Kidman.

The announcement that Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman had decided to divorce sparked plenty of speculation, but concrete details have been limited.

So far, neither Urban nor Kidman has shared much publicly about what led to the split.

The pair separated in September, with Kidman, 58, listing ‘irreconcilable differences’ in divorce paperwork. The former couple share two daughters: Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 15.

Since then, country artist Russell Dickerson has spoken about a recent interaction with Urban and how he seemed to be doing.

While attending the IHeartRadio Music Awards, Dickerson said Urban was in ‘good spirits’ after they briefly connected at the Country to Country music festival.

Dickerson also suggested Urban is pouring himself into his work at the moment, though he noted their time together was short.

In comments to Page Six, Dickerson said: “He’s always been focused on music, and so I think he’s just kind of doubling down on that, and it’s just beautiful.

“I can’t wait to hear what comes out of it.”

Kidman has likewise said little about the breakup, though she hinted that the period has been challenging.

In an interview with Variety, when asked whether every year feels like the ‘year of Nicole Kidman,’ she acknowledged that wasn’t the case recently.

She said: “Well, not last year. I was quiet. I had other things going on. I was in my shell.”

Variety also asked her more directly how she was holding up following the separation.

She replied: “I am, because I’m always going to be moving toward what’s good. What I’m grateful for is my family and keeping them as is and moving forward. That’s that.”

Even so, Kidman made it clear she doesn’t intend to share more specifics publicly.

Kidman added: “Everything else I don’t discuss out of respect. I’m staying in a place of, ‘We are a family,’ and that’s what we’ll continue to be.

“My beautiful girls, my darlings, who are suddenly women.”

Some information about the terms surrounding their separation has emerged through court filings.

According to court documents obtained by PEOPLE, Urban and Kidman are required to ‘behave with each other and each child so as to provide a loving, stable, consistent and nurturing relationship with the child even though they are divorced’.

It continued: “They will not speak badly of each other or the members of the family of the other parent.

“They will encourage each child to continue to love the other parent and be comfortable in both families.”
