Kelsey Grammer celebrates the arrival of his eighth child at age 70

Kelsey Grammer recently announced the arrival of his eighth child, a boy, with his fourth wife, Kayte Walsh. The couple, married for over a decade, already share three children: Faith, 12, Gabriel, 10, and James, 8.

The two first crossed paths in 2009 when Walsh, who was then a flight attendant, met the X-Men actor on a flight to London. They connected over coffee a few days later and eventually tied the knot in 2011.

In addition to his children with Walsh, Grammer is a father to several others. His eldest child, 41-year-old Spencer, is from his marriage to Doreen Alderman. He also shares a daughter, 33-year-old Greer, with Barrie Buckner. With his ex-wife Camille Grammer, he has two more kids: 23-year-old Mason and 20-year-old Jude.

Grammer shared the joyful news during an episode of Pod Meets World on October 27, stating that their new son, Christopher, had joined their family just a few days prior.

“Just had our fourth one, so it just became eight kids!” Grammer announced. “It was like three days ago. Christopher, that’s just joined the family.”

Earlier this year, the Frasier actor spoke candidly about his role as a father, acknowledging that he had at times ‘neglected’ his older children. Speaking to PEOPLE, he shared, “I have neglected a couple of the kids in my life, especially the first two. I’m trying to make up for a little of it now. I’m still their dad, so you can always have [a] chance to show up.”

Grammer emphasized the importance of setting expectations and being present, particularly with his younger kids. “I’m pretty tolerant with the young ones, but I’m clear about how there’s certain expectations and certain ways to navigate through a social situation,” he explained.

In his professional life, Grammer has had the opportunity to collaborate with his children. He worked with his daughter Greer on the second season of the Frasier revival on Paramount+, and in 2022, starred alongside Spencer in The 12 Days of Christmas Eve.

Speaking to Variety, Grammer expressed his pride in his children following in his footsteps. “Kayte and I were talking about how it’s really something that a child would follow in their father’s footsteps,” he stated. “To think that all my kids, at least the ones that have a hand in the air, are ready to take responsibility for their lives, are all drawn to this industry.”

Reflecting on his family’s involvement in the entertainment industry, he added, “It’s something I’ve never told them. I’m hoping they’re going to read [my upcoming memoir] and realize, ‘Oh, so Dad’s okay with this’.”

Grammer discussed these themes while promoting his memoir, Karen: A Brother Remembers, which he wrote to honor his sister Karen, who was tragically kidnapped and murdered at the age of 18.
