Fitness Blogger Mom Proves What You Weigh Doesn’t Show How Healthy You Are

Fitness blogger and mom Kelsey Wells, known as MySweatLife on Instagram, has shared a powerful post telling people to step away from the scales, because weight is no reference point for how healthy you are.

LETS DO THIS || I freaking hate training #arms 😩! Which is precisely why I keep my #bbg arm day as Wednesday- once I'm done I feel like the week is all 🎉 from there! 🤗 Haha hey guys! What's up!? I myself am currently buried beneath a pile of emails and an even bigger pile of laundry to catch up on.. BUT, once I dig myself out its GYM TIME!👊🏼💃🏻What are you doing to #getoutandsweat today?? || ALSO seriously thank you all so much for your kind comments and encouragement on my last post, and just in general. I can't tell you how much I wish I could respond to every single one, and I know general "thank you's" are lame, but I just have to do it anyway because I really, REALLY am so thankful for you.❤️😘 || Outfit: @adanola . . . . . #mysweatlife #sweatwithkayla #trainlikeanangel #girlswithmuscle #fitlife #fitchick #fitspo #fitfam #fitmom #fit #fitness #fitgirl #bbgcommunity #bbggirls #bbgbabes #bbgmums #bbgmoms #bbgsisters

Kelsey put on 50lbs during pregnancy and, post-partum, decided to start a new fitness regime. She opted for Instagram favorite, the Bikini Body Guide (BBG).

Today>>> A little family fun in the sun is good for the soul I tell ya!☀️⛱🌊 Beach day with my boys was just what this momma needed. Anderson ran us around a million miles an hour and we are all covered in sand and beyond worn out but beyond happy.🤗 || GUYS I gotta be honest with you. This has been my worst week of eating in a looooooong long long time and I don't know what is going on but I just have not been able to get it together!😂 I have eaten all the things basically every other day this week.😁 I start out great and healthy then I just lose my mind?? And I could easily just not mention it or post about something else but it's on my mind and more than anything, I just want you to know that IT'S NORMAL. (At least for me?😂) And yeah, I eat really really clean most if the time but it was not something that came easily to me. And every now and then I have times like this week where for no good reason I just slide back into my "old" eating ways and the motivation is just not there. THE DIFFERENCE though, between now and when I started, is that I am in such a healthier place mentally. I may not have killed any of my workouts this week, but I still did them. I may not have eaten the best, but every day I gave it an effort. Most importantly, am I a little bummed? Sure! BUT what I'm NOT is depressed or guilty or mad about it. Life has ups and downs and this is MY healthy LIFESTYLE. This week wasn't my best in that regard, but I'm still proud of my effort and I'm not about to let it throw me off. Moral of the story? BE GENTLE WITH YOURSELF. Do your best. Live life. Do your best to be healthy but pleaseee don't beat yourself up if your best turns out to be fries and a slushie. It happens.💁🏻🍟🍹Maybe that's not the best advice but I'm a firm believer life is to be enjoyed! Now go ENJOY the rest of your weekend lovelies! I know I will.🤗💗💗 . . . . . . . #weekendvibes #girlswithmuscle #workout #fit #fitness #fitchick #fitfam #fitmom #fitfam #bbg #bbgbabes #bbgcommunity #bbgmums #bbgmoms #bbgsisters #bbgfam #happy #healthy

And yesterday, after a whopping 84 weeks of the BBG programme, Kelsey shared three pictures of her progress from start to finish, with her weight and body shape amazing her followers.

SCREW THE SCALE || I figured it was time for a friendly, yet firm reminder.🤗 YOU GUYS. PLEASEEEEEE STOP GETTING HUNG UP ON THE NUMBER ON THE STUPUD SCALE! PLEASE STOP THINKING YOUR WEIGHT EQUALS YOUR PROGRESS AND FOR THE LOVE OF EVERYTHING PLEASE STOP LETTING YOR WEIGHT HAVE ANY AFFECT WHATSOEVER ON YOUR SELF ESTEEM, like I used to. To any of you who are where I once was, please listen to me. I am 5' 7" and weigh 140 lbs. When I first started #bbg I was 8 weeks post partum and 145 lbs. I weighed 130 before getting pregnant, so based on nothing besides my own warped perception, I decided my "goal weight" should be 122 and to fit into my skinniest jeans. Well after a few months of BBG and breastfeeding, I HIT IT and I fit into those size 0 jeans. Well guess what? I HAVE GAINED 18 POUNDS SINCE THEN. EIGHT FREAKING TEEN. Also, I have gone up two pant sizes and as a matter of fact I ripped those skinny jeans wide open just the other week trying to pull them up over my knees.😂 My point?? According to my old self and flawed standards, I would be failing miserably. THANK GOODNESS I finally learned to start measuring my progress by things that matter — strength, ability, endurance, health, and HAPPINESS. Take progress photos and videos. Record how many push-ups you can do, ect. And if you can, your BFP — there is only a 5 lb difference between my starting and current weight, but my body composition has changed COMPLETELY. I have never had more muscle and less body fat than I do now. I have never been healthier than I am now. I have never been more comfortable in my own skin than I am now. And if I didn't say #screwthescale long ago, I would have gave up on my journey. So to the little teeny tiny voice in the back of my head that still said "😳wtf is this- not 140!?😭😩" last week when I stepped on the scale, I say SCREW. YOU. And I think you should probably say the same to your scale too. #byefelicia 👋🏼🚫⚖ . . #bbgprogress #transformationtuesday #fit #fitness #workout #fitmom #fitchick #fitfam #fitnesstransformation #beforeandafter #sweat #mysweatlife #girlswithmuscle #girlgains #strongnotskinny

“I weighed 130 before getting pregnant, so based on nothing besides my own warped perception I decided my goal weight should be 122,” wrote Kelsey, “Well, after a few months of BBG and breastfeeding, I HIT IT and I fit into those size 0 jeans.”

But as Kelsey continued to work out, the numbers on the scale were creeping up — surely a cause for alarm. Not for Kelsey, who points out that muscle weighs more than fat.

Almost exactly 2 years between these photos — my results using @kayla_itsines #bbg program.☺️🤗 || You may not see your progress day to day when you look in the mirror, but rest assured if you are training every day and making healthy choices, progress is being made. Don't get me wrong, it doesn't take two years to see progress, but real progress IS slow. When I first committed to "getting fit" it was all about physical change, and it felt like a chore. Thankfully though, my mindset and attitude were the first things to start "transforming", and when I began instead to focus on my health and happiness I started to truly love this journey. Love yourself first. Physical results (if that's what you want) will follow. Remember the time is passing anyway, it's just about making the little day to day choices that will put you where you want to be when you look back.❤️ . . . . #mysweatlife #getoutandsweat #sweatwithkayla #bbgprogress #transformationtuesday #fitnesstransformation #beforeandafter #afterbabybody #mombod #bbgmoms #bbgmums #bbgbabes #bbglife #workout #fitspo #fit #fitness #fitmom #fitchick #fitfam #happy #healthy

8 WKS POST BABY to 84 WKS BBG || You guys!! Seriously thank you SO MUCH for your kindness and love on my last post- sharing transformation photos is always a bit nerve wracking and your support blows me away.😭💗 || Anyway, here is the back side!🙈 ALSO, I am reading all your questions and messages and plan to answer as many as I can in my posts throughout this week! || HAPPY MONDAY FITFAM! Kelsey has clearly lost fat on her body and seriously toned up, and advises people to “take progress photos and videos, record how many press ups you can do”.

“There is only a 5lb difference between my starting and current weight, but my body composition has changed completely.”

So even though she’s only lost 5lbs on the scale since starting BBG, Kelsey feels healthy and strong and looks amazing. That’s why she says it’s time to ditch the scales.

So I just pulled into the gym and Anderson is of course dead asleep in the car because he of course refused to nap today.😂 Hence I get to chill and mentally prepare to smash some #BBG #arms when he awakes.😈👊🏼💁🏻 || It's no secret I hate arm day.. (thanks @kayla_itsines for calling me out at the NYC #sweattour2016 😳😬) but ya know what? I DO IT ANYWAY. Because even though I hate training arms, I love seeing progress. When I began BBG my arms and shoulders were by far my weakest, and though I still don't enjoy my arms circuits, at least I can do them! Sure, my progress has been slow and steady but for me this has never been about getting quickly "shredded" or "making gains". (Nothing wrong with that of course!🤗) But my point is I needed a program that fit my busy lifestyle and didn't consume it. I needed something flexible and do-able year round. Something I could stick to that brought maintainable results. That is what BBG is and that is how these baby muscles have been grown. And THAT is what I love. I love the feeling I get at the end of my workout knowing that I DID IT. Little by little, one circuit, one workout at a time. THAT'S HOW WE DO IT. 👊🏼💪🏼 . . . . . #bbgbabes #bbgcommunity #bbggirls #bbgfam #bbgmoms #bbgmums #bbgsisters #bbglife #fitmom #fitness #fitfam #fit #workout #fitspo #fitchick #mysweatlife #sweat #girlswithmuscles #girlgains

So if you eat well and take good care of your body, maybe it’s time to wave bye-bye to the dreaded scales.
