Kesha has shared why there are jars of human teeth placed around her home, joking that the display serves a very specific purpose.
After recently admitting she is ‘mostly’ celibate, the singer made it clear she is not especially interested in having men too close anyway. During a new podcast appearance, she also opened up about the unusual collection she keeps in her house.
On Wednesday (July 15), Kesha joined Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers on the Las Culturistas podcast, where she explained that she somehow wound up ‘collecting teeth’.
No, that does not mean she has secretly been moonlighting as the tooth fairy.
The ‘Your Love is My Drug’ artist said the habit began after she developed an obsession with her fans.
She revealed: “Someone was like, ‘My child lost their teeth,’ and I was like, ‘Can I have them?’ I made a necklace, an earring and then a belt and then a crown. The crown’s wild.”
As for why she carried on gathering them, Kesha said it was partly because of the reaction it gets from certain men.
And why she’s kept it up? Well, Kesha joked: “Then I just started collecting them because it kind of freaks out straight men. I put them by the door… I collect human teeth.
“I just started putting them all over my home… In little jars.”
The singer has joked about the tooth collection for years. In earlier interviews, she said fans have sent her more than 1,000 teeth, which she has used to make jewelry and other accessories, turning the odd hobby into part of her long-running offbeat pop-star image.
Joking or not, she also raised a fair question about what people actually do with children’s teeth once the tooth fairy routine is over.
She asked: “And where are they.. Do you flush them down the toilet? Where are they going?”
When Yang and Rogers wondered the same thing, Kesha had a ready-made answer.
