Kevin Spacey discloses his homelessness seven years post sexual assault scandal

Kevin Spacey has shared insights into the toll that fame has taken on his life, revealing that he is currently ‘homeless’ following sexual assault allegations in 2018.

The 66-year-old actor was once a prominent figure in Hollywood, starring in numerous hit films such as American Beauty, The Usual Suspects, and Se7en, among others. His career faced a sudden halt in 2018 when several sexual assault accusations surfaced, drastically impacting his professional life.

Since then, around 30 allegations have surfaced, accusing the two-time Oscar-winning actor of sexual assault or inappropriate behavior. Spacey has consistently denied these claims.

Despite his assertions of innocence, Netflix chose to terminate his contract on House of Cards due to the allegations. In 2023, four of these allegations reached UK courts, where all charges were dismissed, and Spacey was found not guilty on all counts.

Despite being declared innocent, Spacey continues to face challenges, including losing his Maryland home and having to live in temporary accommodations like Airbnbs.

He told The Telegraph: “The costs over these last seven years have been astronomical. I’ve had very little coming in and everything going out.”

Spacey explained, “You get through it. In weird ways, I feel I’m back to where I first started, which is I just went where the work was. Everything is in storage, and I hope at some point, if things continue to improve, that I’ll be able to decide where I want to settle down again. I’m living in hotels, I’m living in Airbnbs, I’m going where the work is. I literally have no home, that’s what I’m attempting to explain.”

Although acquitted, Spacey has used the experience to reflect on his past behavior and why so many were quick to judge him. He questioned, “Why was I such a good villain, why did I fit so well into a narrative that was out there? And some of those were important questions for me to ask, to take accountability for where I made mistakes,” he added. “I suppose when I look back, I wish I had spoken out sooner and allowed my voice to be heard more.”

He continued, “Even though I tried not to be a jerk, I think that to some degree I always was a jerk, because people were stopping and I always had somewhere to go, and I think I was always putting people in lanes – he wants this, she wants that, something from me. But now my relationship with fame is very much changed.”

Previously earning over $500,000 per episode for his lead role in House of Cards, Spacey now leads a much simpler life. He attempted a comeback in Cyprus, performing for one night at the Parklane Luxury Collection Resort in Limassol.

Tickets for the event ranged from $290 to $1400, with promises of an unforgettable experience. An advertisement for the event stated, “With the elegance of Sinatra, the wit of Dean Martin, and a career that spans decades of unforgettable performances, Spacey brings a voice and presence that’s simply unmatched. This is not just a concert. It’s not just an evening of stories. It’s the return of an entertainer in the grandest sense of the word—for one night only in Limassol’s most prestigious venue.”

Although this performance is a departure from his Hollywood days, Spacey remains hopeful that his period of ‘cancellation’ could eventually end. “If Martin Scorsese or Quentin Tarantino call Evan [Lowenstein, Spacey’s manager] tomorrow, it will be over.”
