Jennifer Lopez has officially filed for divorce from Ben Affleck, and a source has highlighted the importance of the chosen date for the filing.
It seems like break-up season is in full swing, affecting everyone from Love Islanders to Hollywood actors.
If you’re reeling from a recent heartbreak and are seeking some company in your sorrow, it appears you can count on Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck to join you.
Reports emerged that Lopez filed legal documents for divorce from Affleck in Los Angeles County Superior Court yesterday (August 20).
The Hustlers star reportedly filed the documents on her own, without an attorney, as per TMZ, and she did so on a notably significant date.
Lopez and Affleck originally started dating in the early 2000s, even getting engaged, but eventually called off their wedding and parted ways.
In 2021, the couple rekindled their romance and got married on July 16, 2022, in Las Vegas, followed by a traditional ceremony in Savannah, Georgia, on August 20, 2022.
Lopez’s divorce filing happened exactly two years after their traditional ceremony, a detail underscored by a source.
A source told People that by the time Lopez decided to file for divorce, she was ‘done waiting,’ and the legal documents cite April 26, 2024, as the date of their separation.
The source added: “And the date she did it [filed for divorce] speaks a ton.”
Another insider mentioned to the outlet: “She tried really hard to make things work and is heartbroken. The kids are a top priority, as they always have been.”
Lopez shares 16-year-old twins Max and Emme with ex-husband Marc Anthony. Affleck shares three children—Violet, Seraphina, and Samuel—with his ex-wife, fellow actor and Daredevil co-star Jennifer Garner.
The BBC reported that the legal documents stipulate both actors must share their financial details, but they do not mention any prenuptial agreement.
Lopez has 60 days to disclose her financial information, including properties, income, expenses, and debt, with Affleck also having 60 days to submit his information after Lopez files hers.
In July, the couple’s Beverly Hills mansion was listed for sale at $68 million, having previously been purchased for $61 million in May 2023.
