Sacramento County deputies shot and killed a knife-wielding man after he stormed a family’s garage and stabbed a mother and daughter in a random July attack.
The 63-year-old mother had been trying to get into her car in the garage on the 5700 block of Diablo Drive around 6:30 a.m. On July 15 when 23-year-old Fareyeshyi Allahdin intercepted her and began stabbing her viciously, police said. Her 26-year-old daughter heard the screams and rushed to help, heroically pulling Allahdin off her mother, but he then turned his blade on her instead.
Video released by authorities shows deputies arriving as the daughter still struggled with Allahdin. Officers loudly ordered him to drop his knife before shooting him dead as he continued stabbing the younger woman.
Fire personnel pronounced Allahdin dead at the scene. Both victims were transported in serious but stable condition. No officers were injured.
The attack capped a terrifying early-morning rampage that began at a nearby Starbucks. Allahdin, armed with what police described as a kitchen knife, had wandered behind the counter of the coffee shop as terrified employees hid.
“He entered behind our counter and was trying to push into our back door,” an employee said in a 9-1-1 call. “We had to barricade it.”
The same caller told dispatchers that Allahdin was “banging on everything” as workers locked themselves in the back room for safety.
Allahdin is seen in the released footage jogging down Diablo Drive with the knife still in his hand before spotting the open garage and entering. The blood-soaked elderly mother is shown wandering between vehicles as she awaited medical care in the aftermath.
Sgt. Edward Igoe, a Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson, addressed the apparently motiveless nature of the violence.
“Absolutely no relationship between any of them,” Igoe said. “This monster just saw an open garage, saw a victim and immediately started attacking.”
Police released a mugshot of Allahdin along with an image of the weapon, a silver kitchen-style knife with a 7- to 8-inch blade.
The attack rattled residents of the Sacramento neighborhood where the stabbings occurred. One neighbor who spoke to KCRA described his own vulnerability after learning what had happened.
“I had my garage open at the same time – I got a wife, kids, so it’s just kind of hitting close to home,” the neighbor said.
Authorities have not indicated whether any charges will be pursued against additional parties, as Allahdin was the sole attacker and was killed at the scene.
