LeBron James has now officially joined the Philadelphia 76ers and is aiming to help end the team’s so-called ‘curse’, which has kept the franchise from winning a championship for the past 43 years.
The Sixers’ last NBA title came in 1983, when Julius Erving, Moses Malone and Maurice Cheeks led Philadelphia to a sweep of the Los Angeles Lakers. Since then, the franchise has come close at times, including a trip to the 2001 NBA Finals, but has not lifted the trophy again.
LeBron arrives with one of the most decorated résumés in basketball history. The 41-year-old is a four-time NBA champion, four-time Finals MVP and the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, bringing championship experience and veteran leadership to a team hoping to turn a long title drought into a new era of success.
