Liam Neeson has opened up about filming a ‘peculiar’ sex scene alongside co-star Pamela Anderson for their latest film, The Naked Gun.
The pair have formed an unexpected comedic partnership in this detective comedy, where the 73-year-old Neeson takes on the role of detective Frank Drebin Jr., tasked with unraveling a plot to assassinate Queen Elizabeth II.
Pamela Anderson, who is 58, portrays Beth Davenport, the sister of a man who met an untimely and suspicious end.
As the story progresses, their characters develop a romantic connection, and their on-screen chemistry has been so convincing that it has sparked curiosity about their real-life relationship status.
However, within the film, there is a scene that has been labeled as one of the most bizarre that Neeson has ever filmed.
Dan Gregor and Doug Mand, the film’s writers, described it as the ‘strangest sex scene of [Neeson’s] life’. Gregor shared with Metro, “This is a spoiler, but he has a great … very strange love scene that I believe has to be the strangest sex scene of his life.”
Mand further commented, “Every day was the strangest thing. Every scene is like, ‘Liam Neeson is doing this?’”
Neeson himself elaborated on this during an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
He discussed the experience of filming intimate scenes with Anderson, highlighting the novelty of working with an intimacy coordinator.
While acknowledging it felt ‘a little bit strange’, he mentioned, ‘Pamela and I knew… [what to do].’
Colbert, however, was curious about another aspect of the film and asked, “There’s an unexpected threesome.”
The scene in question humorously involves a snowman.
Yes, indeed.
“That was a first,” Neeson remarked. “That had to be specifically choreographed.”
Neeson also shared that a body double was used for a nude scene that featured a close-up of his character’s backside, expressing his desire to move on from the topic by saying, “Let’s move on.”
The chemistry between the pair, both on and off the screen, has been the subject of much speculation since the film’s debut.
Speculation about their relationship arose after the duo appeared cozy during red carpet events and interviews promoting the movie.
During his interview, Neeson praised Anderson, saying, “She’s great in the movie, she’s terrific.
“She loves to cook, she loves to bake. She made me sourdough loaves during the shoot, bran loaves which I love.”
When probed about the possibility of a romantic relationship, Neeson playfully responded: “What? I don’t understand the question. I had never met Pamela before. We met on set. And we discovered we had a lovely, budding chemistry as two actors. Like ‘oh, this is nice. Let’s not mould this. Let’s just let it breathe,’ and that’s what we did.”
