American artist Stephen Knapp has created a new medium of art and expression — lightpaintings.
Stephen works with a small group of artists who work with glass, colored film, and of course, light.
His lightpaintings are mounted straight on walls and are usually of large-scale.
The pieces of glass may seem random, but as soon as light shines on them, they turn into rays of multicolored sunshine.
His lightpaintings are considered to be the first unique art form of the twenty-first century.
“At first glance it seems like I’m just going for beauty and color but if you look at the gray ones, look at the variety, and are willing to spend time with them you realize that I am doing nothing less than challenge our very notions of what a painting is,” Stephen says.
“Perception and how we look at the world around us is at the heart of my work.”
