The announcement of David Hekili Kenui Bell’s passing has prompted an outpouring of condolences and tributes on social media.
David Hekili Kenui Bell, who recently featured in the live-action adaptation of Lilo & Stitch, had his death confirmed by a relative.
Bell, known for his roles in Magnum P.I. and Hawaii Five-0, was confirmed to have passed away on Sunday, June 15th, by his elder sister. She shared a touching message reflecting on their bond.
Though Bell played a minor role in the Disney film, fans of Lilo & Stitch will remember him as the character who frequently had his shaved ice or ice cream humorously knocked over. This running gag was revived for the 2025 live-action remake.
In her message, Bell’s sister described him as ‘sweet, generous, talented, funny, brilliant, and handsome.’ She recounted a recent memory of him taking the family to the film’s premiere in Kapolei just two weeks earlier.
She shared, “He planned ahead and purchased the best seats in the house for us all to go together to opening night in Kapolei just two short weeks ago.”
She continued, “That’s one trait we didn’t share, planning ahead. We talked about and were so energized by the fans dressed in Lilo and Stitch gear from head to toe, with t-shirts, onesies, hats, masks, and merch flying off the shelves as we stood in line for popcorn.”
“I suggested we get shave ice after the movie and reenact the scene but then realized the store was already closed. To honor him and ease our grief, we went to get shaved ice, and my grandson’s emotion was on point,” she added.
Social media has seen an influx of tributes and well-wishes for Bell and his family.
In her heartfelt message, Jalene concluded, “He enjoyed social media and I’ll be resharing some of my favorite posts he made, and some I am just seeing for the first time that I missed because they are so funny and heartwarming.”
“Hug your loved ones today. Our last time together after returning home from the movie was just sitting on my living room couch, sharing stories about life, having a seltzer, and doing a little genealogy,” she stated.
“Blessed by this and all the big and small moments, I will keep our memories alive.”
