Lily Allen has spoken out on what she considers the real secret to standout fashion.
The “Smile” singer, 39, offered her take on great style while co-hosting a dinner with British Vogue and Calzedonia at Arlington restaurant in London on Tuesday night. She arrived at the event clad in a sheer lace look that turned heads on the street outside.
Allen paired Calzedonia’s Liberty Floral Mesh Top with the brand’s matching Liberty Floral Fishnet Tights, creating the illusion of a full catsuit. She layered the pieces with a black bra and high-waisted briefs, then topped the ensemble with an embellished metal mesh Chanel jacket.
The “West End Girl” songstress finished the outfit with patent Christian Louboutin heels and a croc-embossed Chanel vanity bag. The look echoed the same style she had modeled for Calzedonia’s fall campaign.
Asked by British Vogue during the dinner what constitutes great style, Allen replied:
“It’s all about confidence, and comfort … It’s a cliché, but I think you can tell if someone is comfortable, or if they’re trying to emulate something else.”
The London appearance comes as Allen continues to make bold fashion statements following her split from actor David Harbour. She has previously wowed fans with a series of headline-making “revenge dresses” in the wake of the breakup.
Her current wardrobe choices tie directly into her creative output. Allen is presently on tour with “West End Girl,” the scathing album she built around the Harbour split.
The Chanel jacket layered over Tuesday’s sheer look added a sparkling, high-fashion counterpoint to the lingerie-inspired base. The metal mesh embellishment on the jacket caught light against the floral fishnet pattern underneath.
Allen first linked up with Calzedonia as a campaign face before bringing the collaboration into her personal appearances. The Liberty Floral set she wore Tuesday had already been featured in the brand’s autumn advertising.
