President Trump invited Democratic Socialist Mayor Zohran Mamdani to the White House to “see how I work” after their Monday meeting at Gracie Mansion, according to an expert lip reader.
Jeremy Freeman, a professional lip reader, studied footage of the 90-minute session and revealed Trump’s private remarks to Mamdani, 33. The two men discussed immigration and a Queens housing project for which the mayor is seeking federal assistance, with Trump also reminiscing about Gracie Mansion itself.
“What I will say, we’ll look after you, but as I say, you’re doing great,” Trump told Mamdani during the meeting, Freeman disclosed to The Post.
“I’ll look after you, you look after the New Yorkers,” the president continued. “And we can both make it work. I wanna support you, help me. Come with me to the White House – see how I work.”
The unlikely rapport between the conservative Republican president and the socialist mayor first developed during a February White House encounter. Trump told reporters afterward, “I think he’s a nice guy.” Mamdani, for his part, described that earlier session as “a productive meeting.”
Monday’s reunion in New York drew fresh praise from Trump, who spoke to reporters following the Gracie Mansion sit-down. He framed his optimism in terms of mayoral performance across multiple administrations.
“I’ve seen it with numerous different mayors, and I said some great ones and some not so great ones,” he said.
“So, hopefully you’re going to be a great one. I’ll be able to say you’re going to be a great one, and you’re off to a good start.”
The February White House meeting established a surprising channel between the two politicians despite their stark ideological differences. Mamdani, who took office as New York City’s mayor earlier this year, has pursued progressive policies that frequently clash with Republican federal priorities. Yet Trump has repeatedly signaled personal warmth toward the young mayor, a departure from his typically combative posture toward Democratic officials.
The Queens housing project remained central to Monday’s discussions, with Mamdani actively pursuing federal support for the development. Immigration policy also featured prominently in the 90-minute conversation, though specific details of those exchanges were not disclosed.
The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment Tuesday regarding the lip reader’s account or the status of a potential follow-up White House visit.
