Lizzo opens up about Ozempic, unveiling ‘controversial’ truth about her weight-loss

Lizzo has opened up about her weight loss journey, addressing whether she ever used Ozempic and sharing the “controversial” truth behind her transformation. The singer has been flaunting a noticeably slimmer physique, although she hasn’t disclosed the exact amount of weight she has lost.

Lizzo began her weight loss journey in 2023 and has been documenting her progress on social media. In January, she announced she had reached her target weight, noting she hadn’t seen that number on the scale since 2014. She encouraged her followers by saying, “Let this be a reminder you can do anything you put your mind to. Time for new goals!”

Lizzo, now 37, recently elaborated on her weight loss process during an episode of Trisha Paytas’ Just Trish podcast, particularly if GLP-1 drugs were involved. Previously, Lizzo had dismissed speculations on Instagram regarding her use of Ozempic, stating, “When you finally get Ozempic allegations after 5 months of weight training and calorie deficit.”

During her conversation with Trish, Lizzo admitted to initially trying Ozempic but abandoned it after realizing it wasn’t a sustainable solution for her. “I’ve tried everything,” she said. “It’s just the science for me, calories in versus calories out. Ozempic works because you eat less food. That’s it. It makes you feel full, so if you can just do that on your own and get mind over matter, it’s the same thing.”

The “Truth Hurts” artist went on to reveal that changing her diet was a key factor in her weight loss journey. After following a plant-based diet for a decade and going “fully vegan” from 2020 to 2023, she decided to make a change. Trisha noted that abandoning the diet might be seen as “controversial,” but Lizzo explained, “When I was vegan, I was consuming a lot of fake meats. I was eating a lot of bread. I was eating a lot of rice. I had to eat a lot of it to stay full, but really I was consuming like 3,000 to 5,000 calories a day.”

Lizzo highlighted that some foods, though small in appearance, are often high in calories and filled with “sugar and weird s***.” She shared, “That f***’s you up on the inside that you’re not even aware of. So for me, when I started actually eating whole foods and eating like beef and chicken and fish, I was actually full and not expanding my stomach by putting a lot of fake things in there that weren’t actually filling me up.”

Regarding the use of GLP-1 drugs, Lizzo expressed that she doesn’t view those who use them as “cheating,” stating, “It’s not easy. It’s a drug to help somebody with something they’re struggling with. I think it’s [critics’] way of being fat phobic when you’re telling someone they’re cheating like from getting weight loss surgery.”

She remarked on the challenges associated with weight loss surgeries, “That sounds very hard actually, a lot of people feel like they almost died on the table and they got so sick after getting the weight loss surgery, that’s just not easy.”

In January, it was revealed that Lizzo had reduced her body fat by 16 percent and her body mass index by 10.5. The singer told Trish that she is proud of her accomplishments, saying, “I feel like I worked really, really hard and it was intentional with what I did with my body. So when I get compliments, I go, ‘Thanks b***h.’ Like I really receive it because I need to receive that. I don’t take it any weird way because I tried to do this.”
