Amber Eggers, the “Love After Lockup” alum, has died at 41 after a weeks-long hospitalization in Atlanta.
Her mother, Monica Eggers, confirmed that the reality star passed away last Thursday when doctors could no longer sustain her heart. Monica said her daughter had been admitted several days earlier after feeling unwell, and the cause of death was acute liver failure.
The death follows a harrowing spring for the family. In May 2025, Eggers’ sister, Erin, launched a GoFundMe after Amber was hospitalized with severe pneumonia and a bacterial blood infection. She was placed on a ventilator, then moved to an ECMO machine when her condition turned critical.
“I’m reaching out today with an update and a heavy heart to ask for your help,” Erin wrote on the fundraising page, describing her sister as “one of the kindest and most big-hearted people you could ever meet.”
“Right now, she needs all of that strength for the fight of her life,” Erin added on the page.
Erin later shared that Amber had been moved out of the intensive care unit and started physical therapy “to be able to walk again.” No further updates followed on the GoFundMe before last week’s death.
Friends confirmed the death on social media, with one posting a tribute to Eggers on Instagram.
“There really isn’t a good way to say something like this. It doesn’t feel real, and I don’t think any words can make it feel real. Amber Eggers has lost her fight today and passed away,” the friend wrote alongside a photo of Eggers.
“The doctors did everything they could, but in the end, her body just couldn’t keep fighting,” the friend continued. “And if you knew Amber, you know she is a fighter.”
The friend concluded, “She will be missed more than we can probably put into words. ‘Love After Lockup’ viewers and cast alike love Amber very much. We laughed with her, worried about her and cheered her on through everything she faced.
“Thank you for being you, Amber. You are going to be missed. ❤️.”
Eggers first appeared on Season 2 of the We TV series in 2019, when viewers followed her relationship with Vincent Gonzalez. She had begun dating Gonzalez while serving a four-year prison sentence for drug trafficking. The pair got engaged during their time on the show but split after her release.
Eggers later made cameo appearances in subsequent seasons of the franchise, which premiered in 2018, and on the spinoff “Life After Lockup.” On that series, she appeared alongside her former cellmate, Michelle “Puppy” Deaton.
AMC Global Media, the parent company of We TV, did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the outlet.
The franchise has documented dozens of relationships between incarcerated women and their outside partners, following couples through release and attempted reintegration. Eggers’ storyline drew particular attention for its raw depiction of addiction struggles and the challenges of rebuilding life post-incarceration.
No memorial or funeral arrangements have been publicly announced.
