Love Island USA sparks theory about impact that ‘excessive kissing’ is having

It’s that time of year again, with another group of flirty newcomers stepping into the Love Island villa hoping to turn a summer romance into something real.

As always, viewers find themselves asking the same question: how do the Islanders seem to bond so quickly? After just a couple of weeks, some of the relationships look like they’ve been building for months. Outside the villa, that pace might feel more like a single date followed by an intense wait for a reply.

While a closed-off environment can definitely speed things up, fans on Reddit think there’s another major factor at play — the sheer amount of kissing, especially during challenges.

The Peacock series has long leaned into bold, steamy tasks, from the heart rate challenge to classic kiss-off games where Islanders judge one another’s technique and chemistry.

Joining the discussion, one viewer wrote: “I used to watch LIUK before and I was pretty shocked by the amount of kissing here, it’s not really a thing there (at least as far I can remember from a few years back). People also explore more in the early days over there, pull people for chats and such. Kissing is kinda a big deal.

“Here everyone kisses with everyone from the minute they walk in and I personally get super attached to people if I get physical in any way with them. And I have heard people talk about how crazy attached they already are and this is my theory.”

Another commenter agreed, adding: “Honestly probably yea. Watching this season of LI UK you can see the difference. There’s isn’t much kissing so far on UK and the islanders are not that attached yet.”

Some viewers also pointed out that in earlier seasons, kissing outside of challenges felt like a bigger milestone — whereas now, it can seem like everyone is fair game from day one.

Even so, not everyone is enjoying the constant make-outs. A number of fans have complained that the amplified ‘slurping’ sounds come through clearly on TV, thanks to the Islanders’ mic packs.

There was also plenty of confusion online about how often Kenzie and Sean were kissing, especially after they’d previously admitted they were unsure about where they stood.

That storyline won’t be developing in the villa any further, though, as Sean has now become the latest Islander to be dumped. His time on the show took a tough turn when bombshell Gabriel Vasconcelos stole Beatriz Hatz, leaving Sean single.

He later focused his attention on Kenzie, but she was then taken by bombshell Corbin — a shift that ultimately contributed to Sean’s exit during the most recent recoupling.

Now, he’ll be hoping for a fresh start outside the villa — and perhaps a slower pace with fewer kisses.
