Love on the Spectrum star Abbey Romeo’s mom reveals reason for split with David after 5 years

Christine, the mother of Love on the Spectrum star Abbey Romeo, has shared more insight into why her daughter and David Isaacman ended their relationship after nearly five years together.

Abbey and David first connected on season one of the Netflix series, bonding over shared passions like Disney and going on safari. They remained a couple for around half a decade before choosing to part ways earlier this year.

Their split was confirmed in a statement given to People, explaining that the decision came down to their long-term goals no longer aligning.

A statement shared by the former couple to People read: “Abbey and David spent four and a half years together and truly value the time they shared and each other. At this point, they want different things and have decided to go their separate ways, but they remain friends wishing each other the best.”

Christine later addressed the breakup in a YouTube video, stressing that it wasn’t the result of any explosive argument or dramatic moment.

Speaking alongside Abbey’s cousin Mary, she said: “There was no fight over engagements and rings being thrown around. I think people are missing the point on Abbey and David.

“David was happy in his way of doing life. And Abbey’s was different. And they found that out over this period of time.”

Even though the relationship has ended, Christine said she still views the years they spent together as meaningful and positive.

“I’m grateful for the time they had. It was a fabulous relationship,” she continued.

“For anybody, a five-year relationship is a successful relationship. You learn so much, you grow so much.”

Fans of Love on the Spectrum may remember Abbey speaking enthusiastically about marriage, something Christine believes some viewers took too literally.

The mother continued: “Abbey would say she wanted to get married, which really meant, ‘I want to feel like a normal person in the world and do what they do in their relationships.’

“It was almost like having a party, not the idea of moving in together.”

Christine also noted that, despite public speculation, the pair didn’t spend their time together actively planning a wedding or discussing marriage as an immediate next step.

She added that there’s no bitterness between them, saying Abbey has “grown a ton” through the experience and giving David credit for the part he played in that growth.

“That’s what relationships are,” Christine added. “They help us grow and change.”
