Kit Barrus, 28, says she torched a “love hex” left inside her home by a college friend who refused to accept she would never date him.
The OnlyFans creator, who draws roughly 10,000 subscribers a month and has amassed some 500,000 Instagram followers, told The Post she was terrified the spell might actually work. “I threw it away!” she said. “I was terrified it would work and I’d get feelings for him.”
The pair’s history stretched back to their college days in Southern California, where both were pursuing math degrees and regularly crossed paths. Their connection remained platonic with occasional casual encounters, until the man pushed for romance and Barrus shut him down repeatedly. “We were friends, but he wanted more,” she said. “We did some things together, and it was casual, but then he wanted to move in a romantic direction, and I knew he wasn’t for me.”
Barrus said she made her feelings unmistakably clear. “I was honest, and repeatedly told him the same thing,” she recalled. “it’s not going to happen.”
She believed he had finally accepted her boundaries when he joined a casual game at her home and kept his distance. “He sat in the corner, and I was pleased he’d seemed to finally come around,” said Barrus, whose globe-trotting content includes hiking, mountain climbing and sailing in the nude.
Days after that visit, while cleaning, Barrus discovered a beaded necklace secretly wedged inside a table. The jewelry bore her name: FOR KIT.
“I remember looking at it and thinking, ‘What the f–k is this?'” she said.
Her suspicion landed immediately on the same friend, given his longtime fascination with witchcraft and the spirit world. “I was in his dorm room, I saw all the books on spirts and spells,” she said.
Barrus turned to Google to decipher what he might have attempted. “Apparently there’s this thing where you make someone a piece of jewelry and while you’re making it, you think about them and put your intentions into it and then you leave it where they live so the energy is supposed to flow into them or whatever,” she explained her findings.
She concluded he had planted the object deliberately. “He put some kind of powerful energy into it to make me fall in love with him,” she said.
Rather than risk any supernatural influence, Barrus took decisive countermeasures. She lit sage throughout her residence to cleanse the space and eliminate whatever energy the necklace might carry. “I cleansed my entire place,” she said.
The practice of crafting enchanted jewelry has proliferated online, where aspiring sorcerers can find countless blogs and tutorials for spells targeting everything from career advancement to romantic conquest. Some practitioners have even turned the craft into commerce through platforms like Etsy, offering services from promotion-solidifying rituals to ex-lover curses.
Barrus wanted no part of such magic, willing or otherwise. She discarded the necklace entirely, ensuring whatever spell her would-be suitor may have attempted fizzled before it could take hold.
The incident has left Barrus wary of where friendly gestures might end and unwanted mystical manipulation begins.
Whether the necklace held any genuine supernatural power remains unproven, but Barrus was not interested in finding out.
