Mad Men actor opens up about ongoing battle with disorder that’s ‘worsened over time’

A prominent actress from the acclaimed TV series Mad Men has recently shared her long-term struggle with a particular condition.

January Jones, best known for her role as Betty Draper, the beleaguered spouse of the philandering Don Draper, spoke out about her ongoing battle with a disorder that has intensified over time.

For those unfamiliar, Mad Men concluded a decade ago, providing ample opportunity to witness Don’s escapades as he navigates the advertising world with his penchant for drinking, smoking, and seduction.

Jones has candidly discussed a condition she has lived with for many years, which has progressively worsened.

This condition, affecting millions worldwide, can be challenging to manage, especially in severe instances.

The condition is called misophonia, where an individual experiences intense reactions to specific sounds that others might find unobtrusive.

If you’ve ever felt a surge of irritation or anger due to someone chewing loudly, you might relate to what those with misophonia endure.

In her Instagram story, Jones shared her journey, stating, “For today, I’d like to talk about something that I’ve been struggling with my whole life, which is called misophonia. And it’s gotten progressively worse over the years.”

She humorously recounted how her brother-in-law, aware of her sensitivity to eating noises, teases her by consuming chips in her presence.

Jones explained, “I have a brother-in-law whose favorite food is chips. Just all the time, he eats chips.”

“I have talked to him about this many times, and he seems to think it’s funny to eat chips around me now, because it’s an ongoing joke to see what happens and see what I do. I just think it’s really unkind to my issue and also very dangerous for him.”

Jones jested about the drastic actions she imagines to escape the bothersome sounds.

“So what I didn’t do today, was record this video inside a prison,” she quipped, adding, “Because I’ve imagined many ways to do it. But I haven’t. I didn’t. Not yet.”

Despite the jest, Jones acknowledged her brother-in-law’s otherwise amiable nature, concluding, “And it’s his birthday today, so happy birthday. I hope you’re eating a f**k load of chips.”
