Madonna discloses what saved her life in first ‘real’ interview in nearly a decade

Madonna has spoken about what she considers to be the one thing that ‘saved her life’ after experiencing a difficult period.

In 2023, the iconic singer was reportedly hospitalized due to a ‘serious bacterial infection’ which led to her being placed in intensive care as her condition worsened.

During this time, there were reports suggesting that Madonna’s family was preparing for the worst outcome.

Fortunately, the 67-year-old star made a full recovery, and she has since shared insights into her experience.

Appearing on Jay Shetty’s podcast, On Purpose with Jay Shetty, Madonna discussed the newfound significance her spiritual life holds for her.

“You need to be spiritual to be successful,” she expressed. “Success is having a spiritual life, period. I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t have one.”

She elaborated further, saying: “What have I done for others? That’s really the only way you can be successful in life. It’s like the greatest amount of light is where there’s darkness and you can reveal the most amount of light.”

“When you’re in a dark room, you turn on the light. When you’re in a room that’s already light, what do you, there’s no, um, effort made. So, should we look for darkness? My soul’s purpose is to reveal light in the world through whatever I do.”

Madonna added: “Spiritual wisdom is not helpful when everything’s going your way. It’s helpful when you’re challenged and when you’re happy.”

“It’s helpful to remember that at any given time, in any moment, it could be gone. So don’t take it for granted. Have humility. Radical acceptance is just accepting that what is happening to you is meant to happen to you – and that you’re going to be okay.”

Towards the end of 2023, Madonna opened up about her frightening experience that nearly claimed her life.

“I want to say it was a crazy year for me as well. And I didn’t think I was gonna make it. Neither did my doctors. That’s why I woke up with all of my children sitting around me,” she shared during a performance.

“I forgot five days of my life… or my death, I don’t really know where I was.”

“But the angels were protecting me and my children were there. And my children always save me, every time.”

Madonna is the mother to six children: Lourdes, 28, Rocco, 25, David, 20, Mercy, 10, and 13-year-old twins Stella and Estere.
