Spending the equivalent of a house deposit on a single meal is hard to fathom, which is why many were shocked when a man amassed a $108,000 bill at Salt Bae’s restaurant in Dubai.
Considering what one could purchase for over $100,000, it seems extravagant to allocate such a sum to just one dinner.
This incident has led to criticism of the famous chef, Salt Bae—whose real name is Nusret Gökçe—after he posted the receipt of the lavish meal on social media.
Salt Bae took to Instagram to share an image of a bill from his Dubai establishment at the Four Seasons, amounting to 398630 UAE dirham ($108,000).
The customer spent more than what many earn in a year—or the cost of a property—on the opulent meal, leaving people astounded.
Salt Bae’s dining experiences are known to come with a steep price, as the chef has been previously highlighted for the expensive offerings at his venues.
Yet, people were still amazed upon seeing the detailed receipt, which exposed the total cost of all the food and beverages ordered.
The invoice itemized the customers’ orders, which included $13 fries and three ‘Golden Steaks’ adding up to nearly $1,400.
The patrons also enjoyed beverages such as four porn star martinis ($130), two bottles of Chateau Petrus 2009 ($53,900), one bottle of Petrus 2011 ($17,700), and five double servings of the exclusive Louis XIII cognac neat ($7,500).
The meal didn’t conclude there; the bill also included 11 ‘Golden Baklava’ desserts costing $1,250.
With an additional tip of $24,500, the overall bill significantly exceeded what most would expect to pay for dining out.
Next to the image, Salt Bae commented: “Money comes money goes.”
People expressed their disbelief in the comments, with one remarking: “Who tf is spending $40k on a dinner?!!!” and another questioning: “And you guys think this is normal 100k for dinner??!!”
A third person noted: “I can probably grill and cook a steak the size of what he does for about 30 bucks and make it taste even better. Gold covered stuff is just wasting money there’s literally no health purpose and literally you can save that money.”
Another described it as ‘the most overpriced restaurant’.
