This Man Dropped Everything To Travel The World With His Piano And Dog

In 2010, NYC-based pianist Dotan Negrin was ready for a change — he was tired of his job delivering artwork for a local photographer, and decided to find his own path.

Dotan bought a box truck on eBay, loaded up his piano and his dog Brando, and hit the road.

“I’m just an ordinary guy with big dreams. I’m not some celebrity on TV. This is as real as it gets. No producers. No script,” writes Dotan.

Dotan started in his home city of New York before embarking on a trip all around the US. He played anywhere he could find a spot, including on the Brooklyn Bridge.

Dotan’s adventures also took him to Central America, where he performed in Guatemala overlooking a beautiful lake.

Eventually, Dotan decided to take his talents on a cross-Atlantic tour. “Last year I flew to Paris, bought a piano, rented a van, and traveled for 3 months through Europe.”

Dotan seeks new and interesting places to perform. Here he is playing at Burning Man in 2013.

And here he is playing in the Rocky Mountains at an elevation of over 12,000 feet.

Dotan’s small dog Brando accompanies him on his adventures.

“I would say that I’ve met and interacted with more than 10,000 people in the last 5 years,” says Dotan.

But his adventure hasn’t been without problems. At one point, he dropped his piano on his fingers, breaking two of them.

While visiting Zurich, Dotan encountered a throng of One Direction fans celebrating the group’s birthday. He played along as they sang their favorite songs:
