A man who experienced a near-death event has shared his sensations, sounds, and visions during that unsettling period.
Many individuals have recounted their encounters with death.
From a person who believes they visited Hell, to another who encountered ‘deceased loved ones’, and yet another who described ‘floating above their own body’, these experiences seem to vary greatly.
The more stories we hear about others’ experiences, the better we attempt to understand the nature of dying.
One man shared his account on Reddit, suggesting that our comprehension of death might be quite limited.

In a post on the ‘Ask Me Anything’ subreddit, he shared that he ‘died, was revived, and was on life support for quite some time’.
He continued: “I also work in healthcare. Needless to say, being on both sides of the spectrum (as a healthcare provider and patient survivor) after this incident has really heightened my perspective. AMA.”
He recounted in the comments section how he was declared dead ‘for a couple of minutes’ and then put on ‘a mechanical ventilator for several days in the ICU’.
Describing it as a ‘humbling’ experience, he mentioned feeling ‘absolutely no pain’ and even ‘comfortable’ despite his body ‘fighting hard against everything physically’.
He recalled vomiting while on the ventilator and aspirating, yet felt no pain.
Aspiration happens when something enters the lungs, causing difficulty breathing, as explained by the Cleveland Clinic.

He described being ‘surrounded by my family in the ICU, which was comforting’, while having ‘an out-of-body experience’.
“I can still recall conversations my family had in the ICU room but no matter how much I wanted to reply to them or even interact with them, I couldn’t. That was the weird part for me,” he wrote, adding that after the ventilator was taken out, he ‘saw’ his ‘grandmother who passed away in 2004’.
She advised him to ‘turn around… my time here is just beginning’. Following this, he recounted feeling the ‘tubes slide out of my lungs and the nurses yelling my name’.
When others in the comments speculated whether seeing a deceased loved one near death is genuine or a result of medication or hallucinations, he stated: “I do believe that I saw my grandmother. I also, sometimes, reason with myself, too… asking whether or not it could’ve just been the drugs. However, any time I think about it, I land on… it was really her.
“And, I also work in research and development as a dual role, clinically. We are fortunate enough to have an IBM quantum computer to use. So, I have been learning about quantum physics for the past couple of years.”
