A man has been taken aback after discovering his wife’s plan for him to father a child with her best friend.
While many women might consider their husband having a child with another woman during their marriage a nightmare, this 33-year-old wife is encouraging her husband to do just that.
Mark and his wife, Emily, have been together for seven years and have two children together.
Their relationship has not always been exclusive. They once had ‘a drunken threesome’ with Emily’s best friend Sarah, and this three-way relationship has continued over the years.
Mark refers to Sarah as being akin to a ‘second mom’ to his children, and now Emily wants Sarah to be even more integrated into their family.
Mark shared on Reddit, “A few days ago, after we put the kids to bed, the three of us were relaxing with a couple of drinks. Suddenly Emily said something that’s been keeping me up.”
“‘What if Mark was your donor?’ she said to Sarah. ‘You’ve seen what amazing kids he makes,’ she added with a wink.”
Mark was taken aback, almost choking on his drink. As the discussion unfolded, it became evident that this wasn’t a new idea; Emily and Sarah had been considering it for weeks.
“Sarah’s been researching sperm banks but feels uncomfortable with the idea of an anonymous donor. Emily thinks it’s perfect, Sarah gets a baby from someone she knows and trusts, and our children would have a half-sibling they already love,” Mark explained.
Adding complexity to the situation, Sarah and Emily prefer not to involve a clinic, suggesting that Mark impregnate Sarah ‘naturally’.
Despite the unconventional suggestion, Mark noted that what’s really troubling him is Emily’s enthusiasm for the plan.
He reflected, “She can’t hide the excitement at the idea of me getting her best friend pregnant, just like she was when we were trying for our kids.”
“Sarah keeps giving me these shy looks that drive me crazy, and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t attracted to the idea,” Mark admitted.
Although he knows he ‘probably should say no,’ Mark confessed that he’s ‘seriously considering it’.
Seeking opinions, Mark turned to Reddit, asking, “Am I crazy for even considering this?”
His situation has sparked mixed reactions online. While some have criticized the idea as ‘f**ked up’, others have encouraged him to pursue it if everyone involved is content.
One supporter commented, “As a polyamorous person, this is cute. Honestly if you’re all basically dating/living together and co-raising kids, the dynamic shouldn’t change as long as communication lines stay very open.”
However, another user raised concerns: “What are your responsibilities to this child? Will you be up in the middle of the night with this baby, or is she insisting that she wants to raise the child alone? I can see it getting messy if you don’t have a clear picture of any parental duties.”
For Mark, his decision seems to lean towards saying yes, as he expressed, “The legal implications alone should terrify me, but somehow they don’t. God help me, but I think I’m going to do it.”
