Man who has visited 105 countries shares the five places he’d never return to

Planning your next getaway? One seasoned traveler has shared the places he enjoyed most — along with five destinations he says he wouldn’t choose to visit again.

Anyone who has traveled widely knows every country offers its own mix of culture, atmosphere, and surprises.

At the same time, not every trip lands the way you expect. Differences in costs, customs, infrastructure, food, and day-to-day comfort can shape how visitors feel — sometimes enough to decide one visit is plenty.

In a thread on r/travel, one Reddit user said he’s visited more countries than most, and he decided to break down his experiences across several “best of” categories — including the places he’d rather not return to.

He wrote in the subreddit thread, r/travel: “I’ve been to 105 countries. Here’s a my list that no one cares about in terms of best of best.”

He added: “When people find out I’ve been to so many countries, inevitably they always ask what’s my favorite countries. I always say, these kind of questions lose the nuance because of xyz. But still, maybe the below list can help people when they’re looking to plan their 2026 trips. my top 5 list is at the bottom of this post. you’ll have to earn it by scrolling.”

When it came to destinations he felt he’d already “done” and didn’t feel any pull to revisit, he listed Morocco, Bangladesh, Belize, El Salvador, and Mozambique.

Because Morocco and Bangladesh attract plenty of visitors, some readers were surprised to see them included.

He also pointed to popularity rankings from YouGov: Belize sits at 128th, Morocco at 75th, Bangladesh at 123rd, Mozambique at 147th, and El Salvador at 113th.

One commenter asked for more detail about two of the picks, writing: “Curious about once was enough for Belize and El Salvador. Were they inherently bad or just because they’re small and you feel like you’ve done it all?”

The traveler responded: “Belize was way too pricey for what you’re getting. And El Salvador was more of, nothing there really stands out compared to its neighbors. So see it once, and that’s it.”

Another reader questioned why Mozambique made the list, asking: “‘Countries where once is enough and I have no desire to ever come back’…Mozambique? Why, OP?”

He explained that he disliked what he described as frequent road stoppages while driving, and he criticized the state of the infrastructure. He also said some areas felt dangerous and claimed people weren’t welcoming.

That said, he noted a couple of positives, adding that the beaches are “semi decent” and that there are “some good dives and sea life”.

On the flip side, the countries he said gave him some of his best experiences were Georgia, Oman, Ecuador, Namibia, and Taiwan — describing them as underrated.

As for how long it took to log 105 countries, he said it’s been a 12-year journey — so anyone hoping to match it may want to start planning now.
