Netflix viewers are eagerly requesting a second season of a captivating new drama that’s quickly climbed the TV rankings.
Released on Thursday, October 9, the series consists of eight episodes and has become the second most-watched TV show globally on the platform, trailing only behind Monster: The Ed Gein Story.
The show’s intense storyline has led many to binge-watch it all in a single day. Some viewers are even calling it one of the best new series they’ve come across recently.
The drama, set in the early 1990s, chronicles the life of Cameron Cope, portrayed by Miles Heizer. Cameron, a gay teenager from Louisiana, secretly enlists in the US Marines following his best friend Ray McAffey’s decision to join. His mother, Barbara Cope, played by Vera Farmiga, finds it challenging to accept her son’s path.
Cameron faces the rigors of a 13-week-long boot camp, led by the intense Sergeant Robert Sullivan, played by Max Parker. He is determined to prove himself while concealing his true identity.
The series unfolds just before the implementation of the US military’s Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy in 1994, which permitted gay service members to serve as long as they kept their sexual orientation private.
Cameron finds himself in a struggle of contrasting worlds as he gears up for a perilous mission.
The series, titled Boots, is inspired by former veteran Greg Cope White’s memoir, The Pink Marine. It has garnered a commendable 92 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes from critics.
Callie Hanna from FandomWire praised it as a “genuinely solid show” featuring “powerful emotional moments ranging from haunting to heartfelt.”
Viewers have given it an 87 percent rating, with many expressing even greater enthusiasm in their reviews.
One viewer exclaimed, “Absolutely binge watched it the entire day! Couldn’t stop.”
Another added, “Every episode had me hooked! The storytelling is sharp, the pacing is perfect!”
“The writing, the tension, and Nash’s character arc kept me glued to the screen. I need season two ASAP,” said another.
A third viewer shared, “I binged all eight episodes in two days and I was blown away by the writing, acting, performances…the heart, the depth, the storylines.”
“This is a 10/10, a must-watch,” they claimed.
Another person commented, “Truly one of the best shows I’ve seen for a while. There is a real depth to the story.”
Despite the high demand for a second season, Netflix has yet to announce any continuation.
Miles Heizer himself is among those hoping for more, as he mentioned to Variety: “There are a lot of stories to tell, from more of Greg’s different experiences in the Marines to Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell to when it was repealed. I would do it for 10 seasons if they let us.”
Fingers crossed for more episodes!
Boots is currently available for streaming on Netflix.
