Mariah Carey Closes Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade With ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You’

Consider Thanksgiving done since Mariah Carey has come to start the holiday season formally.

Carey sang “All I Want for Christmas Is You” at the end of Thursday’s 96th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Carey donned a magenta gown and held a matching parasol as she sang the holiday favorite in front of the massive Turkey-themed entryway. Ballet dancers joined dancers dressed in similar red marching band uniforms to surround her.

During the performance, a pair of green present boxes flanking Carey revealed her 11-year-old twins, Moroccan and Monroe, who danced alongside her for the rest of the song.

Carey gushed over the opportunity to play her iconic song during the parade, calling it her “childhood fantasy.”

“My childhood dream is coming to life! I’m going to be opening for the one and only, SANTA CLAUS,” she wrote on Instagram.

And Carey’s Christmas dominance is only beginning. The singer will perform at Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena and New York’s Madison Square Garden for two holiday-themed shows.

On Tuesday, December 20, CBS will broadcast the two-hour primetime musical, Mariah Carey: Merry Christmas to All.

The annual procession began at 9 a.m. ET and traveled 2.5 miles through New York City streets. Along with Carey, Big Time Rush, Sean Paul, Paula Abdul, Jordin Sparks, Dionne Warwick, Betty Who, Fitz and the Tantrums, and others performed.
