Marjorie Taylor Greene has disclosed that Donald Trump reacted with anger when she confirmed her decision to resign.
The Republican from Georgia, once a staunch supporter of Trump, shared the former president’s reaction to her resignation announcement during her first national interview since making her decision public.
Greene had voted to release additional emails from convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, which led to Trump, previously her ally, turning against her.
In a social media statement, Greene announced her intention to resign from Congress on 5 January 2026.
Her resignation letter was direct, stating: “Standing up for American women who were raped at 14, trafficked and used by rich, powerful men, should not result in me being called a traitor and threatened by the President of the United States, whom I fought for.”

In an online video statement, Greene declared: “I refuse to be a ‘battered wife’ hoping it all goes away and gets better.”
Greene has now discussed Trump’s response to her signing a petition to release Epstein’s files, highlighting their known association.
In an interview set to air on 7 December, Greene told 60 Minutes journalist Leslie Stahl: “We did talk about the Epstein files, and he was extremely angry at me that I had signed the discharge petition to release the files.”
In her own video, Greene continued: “I have too much self-respect and dignity, love my family way too much, and do not want my sweet district to have to endure a hurtful and hateful primary against me by the President we all fought for, only to fight and win my election while Republicans will likely lose the midterms.
“And in turn, be expected to defend the President against impeachment after he hatefully dumped tens of millions of dollars against me and tried to destroy me. It’s all so absurd and completely unserious.”

A legislative measure forcing the release of Epstein’s files, who trafficked minors to his private island, was approved by both the House and Senate.
Despite earlier attempts to block its passage, President Trump signed the bill.
According to the bill, the Justice Department must release all documents related to Epstein and information regarding the investigation into his death within 30 days.
Greene reaffirmed her support for Epstein’s victims during the 60 Minutes interview: “I fully believe those women deserve everything they’re asking.
“They’re asking for all of it to come out. They deserve it. And he was furious with me.”
When asked about Trump’s specific comments on releasing the Epstein files, Greene responded cryptically: “He said that it was going to hurt people.”
Approaches have been made to the White House for comment.
