Matt Damon has spoken candidly about the impact filming The Odyssey had on his family, explaining that his four daughters made sacrifices as well while he spent long stretches away working on Christopher Nolan’s ambitious new film.
At the movie’s London premiere on July 6, 2026, the 55-year-old said it meant a lot to mark the occasion with his loved ones by his side. He attended the event with his wife, Luciana Damon, and daughters Alexia, 27, Isabella, 20, Gia, 17, and Stella, 15.
The epic, which sees Damon play Odysseus in Nolan’s adaptation of Homer’s ancient Greek poem, has been positioned as one of the director’s biggest projects yet. Universal has billed it as a major theatrical event, with the film released in IMAX and premium large-format cinemas as part of a wide summer rollout.
Damon said he was especially pleased that his daughters were finally getting the chance to watch the finished result of his portrayal of Odysseus.
“It’s great because they had to sacrifice a lot too for this,” he said. “I went away for a while, they came and visited, but it was a lot. It was a very long movie, very grueling shoot, and I’m really excited for my girls to see it tonight.”

In a separate interview with Entertainment Tonight, Damon also reflected on how much his daughters have grown, saying he felt emotional seeing all of them there for the premiere.
“They’re all having fun while I’m working, but I’m so happy they’re here,” he said.
“Everybody’s so grown up. Like, I got a real dad teary moment seeing them today.”
When asked what it was like to see them all grown up, Damon said it was an intense but happy feeling.
“Yeah, it’s a lot. It’s wonderful, but it’s a lot.”

The actor has previously said that frequent travel has become a normal part of family life because his work often takes him around the world. The Odyssey was filmed across multiple international locations and has also drawn attention for being shot entirely on IMAX film, a first for a feature from Nolan.
“We are seasoned travelers in our family, just because I work all over the world,” he said. “So my kids love to travel.”
Damon is now preparing for a busy summer promoting The Odyssey, the adaptation of Homer’s ancient Greek epic, in which he stars as Odysseus.
He said he is not expecting much downtime before the film begins its international promotional run.
“My decompression already happened,” he said. “But we’re going to Europe, we’re going to do premieres in Mumbai, Beijing and Seoul. It’s a big push.”
“I’ll bring my family for a lot of it, so they can see some of these places,” he added.
The Odyssey hits theaters on July 17
