Matthew Perry’s mother has shared her thoughts nearly a year after the Friends star’s untimely passing.
Perry was discovered deceased at his Los Angeles residence on October 28, 2023, at the age of 54.
The autopsy revealed ketamine traces in his system, with the death initially ruled as an accidental overdose.
However, the Los Angeles Police Department announced in May that it would investigate the ketamine’s origin.
In August, the US Department of Justice shared some findings during a press conference, stating that the investigation into Perry’s death uncovered a ‘broad underground criminal network’ exploiting the actor by providing him with drugs.
Five individuals have since faced charges related to Perry’s death.
Numerous tributes have been paid to Perry since his sudden and unexpected demise, with the first anniversary approaching.
Suzanne Morrison, the actor’s mother, has recently discussed her last days with her son.
In an emotional interview with Today, Morrison stated: “He went through a period, interestingly enough, just before he died when he was showing me one of his new houses.
“He came up to me and he said, ‘I love you so much, and I’m so happy to be with you now. And I’m so…’ It was almost as though it was a premonition or something. I didn’t think about it at the time, but I thought, ‘How long has it been since we’ve had a conversation like that?’ It’s been years.”
Morrison continued: “There was an inevitability to what was going to happen next to him, and he felt it very strongly.
“But he said, ‘I’m not frightened anymore’. And it worried me.”
Perry’s family initially expressed their grief in a statement to People in October 2023, describing their ‘heartbroken’ state following the ‘tragic loss’ of their ‘beloved son and brother’.
“Matthew brought so much joy to the world, both as an actor and a friend. You all meant so much to him and we appreciate the tremendous outpouring of love,” the statement added.
Following this, Perry’s stepfather, Dateline NBC correspondent Keith Morrison, and his younger sister Caitlin, have established The Matthew Perry Foundation of Canada.
Caitlin shared with HELLO! Canada that creating the foundation makes it “kind of feel” like she’s “sitting right next to Matthew working with him every day on something that was important to him”.
