Meghan Trainor has shared her experience about her family’s decision to use surrogacy for their latest child and offered a glimpse into the ‘beautiful’ journey.
On January 21, Meghan Trainor announced on Instagram that she and her husband, Daryl Sabara, had recently welcomed a baby girl into their lives.
Their daughter, named Mikey Moon, is the couple’s third child, joining four-year-old Riley and two-year-old Barry.
Mikey Moon was born via surrogate, and Trainor expressed her gratitude to the ‘incredible superwoman’ who played a crucial role in their journey, as well as thanking ‘all the doctors, nurses, and teams who made this dream possible’.
Despite the joyful announcement and celebration of new life, there were some negative reactions online.
An X user commented: “These skin-to-skin pictures are so performative and fake. If you didn’t birth a baby, it’s not your baby. I’m sorry, but you can’t convince me otherwise.”
However, another person countered: “What a gross thing to say. Babies benefit from skin to skin regardless of who birthed them. Focus less on being so hateful towards others.”
Trainor has further explained why the family opted for surrogacy, noting that it wasn’t their ‘first choice’.
In an interview with People, the 32-year-old singer detailed the ‘endless conversations with doctors’.
Trainor mentioned that these discussions concluded that surrogacy was the ‘safest way’ for them to ‘continue growing’ their family.
“We are forever grateful for that option,” she stated.
She hopes that by speaking out, she can raise awareness and encourage people to view surrogacy as ‘another beautiful way to build a family’ rather than something to ‘whisper about or judge’.
Trainor also elaborated on the process and her connection with the woman who carried their daughter.

Trainor described the surrogate as ‘one of the most selfless, strong, and loving people’ she has ‘ever met’.
She added: “We felt so connected throughout the entire journey, and I’ll always be grateful for the care and love she showed our daughter.
“She gave us the greatest gift of our lives. She graciously answered our many check-in texts to make sure she was doing okay.”
Reflecting on the process, Trainor noted that it was ‘rooted in trust, science, love, and teamwork’.
The singer remarked: “Every family’s journey looks different, and all of them are extremely valid.”
