Meghan Trainor reveals why she underwent a boob job as she hits out at critics

Meghan Trainor has opened up about why she chose to undergo breast augmentation, while also reflecting on the body shaming she’s faced since becoming famous as a teenager.

Trainor, 32, rose to global fame at 19 when her 2014 single ‘All About That Bass’ took off. Even as the track climbed the charts, she found herself at the centre of backlash, with critics taking issue with its lyrics and accusing her of “skinny shaming”.

Speaking to The i Paper about the reaction she received online, she said:

“I didn’t love everyone talking about my body, and having me talk about how I feel about people’s bodies.

“I was like… ‘These are my insecurities, I wish [the self-confident lyrics were] my thoughts.’”

More recently, Trainor has again been in the public eye, this time due to her weight loss and her decision to get breast implants. She said the scrutiny didn’t stop, even after making choices she felt were right for her body following three children.

Explaining why she went ahead with surgery, Trainor said she feels better than ever:

“I got a boob job because these empty boobies after children were heartbreaking to me. I didn’t like duct taping them to my shoulders – so quick implants for me – and I never felt better,” she added.

She also described how therapy has helped her process the constant judgement:

“… My therapist helps me a lot. She’s like, ‘You give these strangers a lot of power – why?’ And I’m like, ‘Ew, I don’t like that.’”

After her pregnancy with her second child, Barry, Trainor was diagnosed with gestational diabetes and was told she had elevated thyroid peroxidase (TPO) antibodies. She said those health issues pushed her to make significant lifestyle changes.

Trainor cut out gluten, dairy and alcohol, brought in a personal trainer, and began using the weight loss drug Mounjaro. Over the last five years, she has said she’s lost 60 pounds.

However, she’s also dealt with online criticism from people who claim her transformation clashes with the body-positive message many associated with her breakout hit.

Recalling the wave of negative comments, Trainor previously told Extra:

“Like, all my comments were just evil, attacking me,” Trainor previously told Extra.

“I started posting pictures of myself recently, just like I always did.

“But for some reason a flame went off, and everyone got mad. Just like, ‘Ew, I don’t recognize you, you’re just a walking nose.’ Just crazy stuff, like mean.”

She added to Entertainment Tonight:

“I’m taking care of myself. I have to find a way to not be affected by that.”
