Meghan Trainor’s fans have rallied around her after she introduced her third child to the world.
On Wednesday, January 21, the 32-year-old singer shared the joyous news on Instagram, revealing that her daughter, Mikey Moon, was born on January 18 via a surrogate. Trainor expressed her gratitude to the surrogate, calling her an “incredible, superwoman.”
In her heartfelt post, Trainor wrote, “We are forever grateful to all the doctors, nurses, teams who made this dream possible,” emphasizing that after “endless conversations with our doctors,” using a surrogate was deemed “the safest way” for them to continue expanding their family.
She continued, “We are over the moon in love with this precious girl. Riley and Barry have been so excited, they even got to choose her middle name,” reflecting the family’s happiness.
“We are going to enjoy our family time now, love you all,” Trainor concluded.
The post was accompanied by several photos of the newborn, including one capturing Trainor holding Mikey in a tender skin-to-skin moment, and another showing her two sons meeting their baby sister for the first time.

Despite the heartwarming nature of the photos, Trainor faced some unexpected backlash following her social media announcement.
One individual commented on X, stating, “These skin-to-skin pictures are so performative and fake. If you didn’t birth a baby, it’s not your baby. I’m sorry, but you can’t convince me otherwise.”
The topic of surrogacy, especially among celebrities and wealthy individuals, often sparks strong opinions.
“There is just something so f**ked up about rich people (because it really is only available to them) being able to rent the bodies of middle to lower class people,” another person remarked.
However, numerous supporters have come to Trainor’s defense. One social media user countered, “What a gross thing to say. Babies benefit from skin to skin regardless of who birthed them,” urging people to “focus less on being so hateful towards others.”
Another defender noted, “You can be a hater because they didn’t do it the hard way, lots of haters in the world, but like that literally is her baby.”
Additionally, a fan of Trainor explained, “Skin to skin contact, most hospitals have the husbands do it too now. It’s regulating for the baby, helps them with their breathing and heart rate and it makes oxytocin in your body to bond you to the baby. When you do it, it makes it feel like your heart is trying to pull out of your chest, it’s very intense.”
While the criticism is certainly unusual, it’s heartening to see that many of Trainor’s supporters have stepped up to defend her choice.
