Melrose Place Star Grant Show Recalls Being Bitten by Fan’s Jealous Boyfriend Who Was Not Very Happy

Grant Show has revealed he once got bitten by a jealous boyfriend during a fan encounter at the height of “Melrose Place” mania.

The actor, 62, disclosed the bizarre attack during a People-moderated panel at ’90s Con on Sunday, telling the Hartford, Connecticut, crowd that the incident unfolded at a nightclub where a couple sat behind him. The woman was an enthusiastic fan of his bad-boy character Jake Hanson, and her attention quickly drew a hostile reaction from her partner.

“She was a fan of the show and a fan of Jake’s and she kept paying a lot of attention to me,” Show recalled. “I was at a nightclub. It was a couple sitting behind me.”

Show noticed the boyfriend’s mounting displeasure and attempted to defuse the tension with a friendly introduction. The gesture backfired spectacularly.

“I said, ‘My name is Grant. What’s your name?’ He took my hand, bit it,” Show shockingly revealed. “So I took my hand back.”

The panel marked a reunion moment for the Fox soap opera, which ran for seven seasons from 1992 to 1999 and became a defining pop-culture phenomenon of the decade. Created by Darren Star and produced by Aaron Spelling, the series tracked the tangled lives of young adults in a West Hollywood apartment complex, with Show’s Jake serving as the blue-collar heartthrob introduced through “Beverly Hills, 90210” before anchoring the spinoff’s first five seasons.

Fellow cast members have been similarly candid about the show’s increasingly unhinged narrative turns. Laura Leighton, who played schemer Sydney Andrews, previously said that the weekly script deliveries routinely left her stunned by the escalating absurdity.

“Every week, I was like, ‘Seriously, what the f–k?’ And OK, this is what we’re doing this week,” Leighton shared.

Courtney Thorne-Smith, whose character Alison Parker survived everything from alcoholism to amnesia, admitted the cast fully embraced the ridiculousness rather than fighting it.

“It was definitely a ride of, you know, open the script and say, ‘What’s it going to be?’ and then go, ‘All right, that’s what we’re doing!'” Thorne-Smith said.

Thorne-Smith added that the self-aware approach proved essential to the show’s longevity. “We knew it was ridiculous,” she confessed. “We tried to bring humor. We pushed as far as we could … which is why I think it worked.”

The ensemble that cycled through the series across its run included Thomas Calabro, Andrew Shue, Heather Locklear and Marcia Cross, with Locklear’s Amanda Woodward becoming the show’s most iconic villain. Show’s Jake departed after Season 5, though the character’s motorcycle-riding, construction-working archetype helped establish the template for prime-time heartthrobs throughout the decade.

The ’90s Con event brought multiple cast members together for the retrospective panel, where Show’s nightclub bite story underscored the intense fan devotion—and occasional danger—that accompanied the series’ peak popularity.
