Film enthusiasts continue to be astonished by Michael Bay’s decision to kill off TJ Miller in a dramatically intense manner after the actor reportedly angered him.
For celebrities, there are certain controversies that linger on.
Though Miller has made several notable remarks over the years, his shocking demise in the 2014 film Transformers: Age of Extinction remains a vivid memory for many.
The movie, which had a production cost of $790 million, provided director Bay with the opportunity to eliminate Miller’s character in what fans have termed the ‘most unnecessary film death in history’.
In the scene, Miller’s character, Lucas Flannery, attempts to flee from grenades launched by the Cybertronian bounty hunter Lockdown.
Lagging behind his companions, he is engulfed in an explosion and immediately turned into a crumbling figure. Not only is he vaporized, but the camera then dramatically circles his charred remains, with an extended slow-motion close-up for added effect.
Earlier last month, a discussion about this memorable scene from ten years ago emerged on Reddit.
A user commented: “Whenever I think about TJ Miller, the one thing I remember… is that he p*ssed Michael Bay off so much that he gave him one of the most unnecessary death scenes in cinematic history in one of his Transformers flicks.”
Another participant replied: “Holy f**k i remember that, my mans was barbecued.”
In 2014, the actor opened up on the Doug Loves Movies podcast about his time working with Bay.
Miller recounted an instance where Bay allegedly threatened to remove him from the film for “not being funny enough” on set, describing: “Once he said to me, ‘Nothing that you’ve said is funny T.J.! Not one thing all day! We hired you to be funny! There’s 300 people here!
“None of them are laughing at you! Say something funny! I can still cut you out of the movie!’
Miller also talked about Bay’s unpredictable nature, adding: “Then the second the cameras stopped rolling, he would say, ‘Hey, do you wanna get sushi and grab drinks?'”
Michael Bay’s representatives have been contacted by UNILAD for comment.
The Reddit thread also touched upon Miller’s apparent retraction of comments he made about his former Deadpool co-star Ryan Reynolds.
Miller portrayed Weasel, the bartender best friend of Wade Wilson, in the first two Deadpool movies.
However, during an appearance on The Adam Carolla Show in 2022, Miller suggested that he felt Reynolds harbored a dislike for him and claimed that the success of Deadpool had ‘changed’ the actor.
He pledged never to work with Reynolds again, but seems to have since altered his stance.
In November, he told SiriusXM’s The Bonfire that Reynolds is ‘such a good friend’ now and expressed that it would be ‘awesome’ to participate in a fourth installment of the Deadpool series.
This remains the case despite Miller not being confirmed to appear in Deadpool and Wolverine or any new Deadpool project.
