Hold your horses, sports fans! The much-buzzed-about boxing showdown between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul set for July 20 is hitting the brakes. Netflix, the event’s broadcaster, has just dropped the bombshell that we’ll have to wait a bit longer to see these two titans clash in the ring.
“Unfortunately, Jake Paul and Mike Tyson will not face-off on July 20 as planned. Tyson’s recent ulcer flare up has limited his ability to train fully for the next few weeks,” Netflix stated, throwing a wrench into our summer fight plans.
“The fight will be rescheduled for a date later this year after Mike’s able to resume training with no limitations and both fighters can have equal time to prepare for this once-in-a-lifetime matchup!” they added, keeping the hype alive. “Stay tuned for the new fight date to be announced by the end of next week here.”
It turns out, the boxing legend, who is 57 years young, had a bit of a scare last Saturday while jetting from Miami to Los Angeles. Tyson experienced an ulcer flare-up mid-flight and felt nauseous, but he was only 30 minutes away from landing. His team later assured ESPN that Mike was “doing great” post-incident, praising the medical staff who assisted him.
Tyson, not one to stay down for long, fired off a tweet shortly after: “Now feeling 100% even though I don’t need to be to beat Jake Paul.”
On the other side of the ring, Jake Paul was quick to knock down rumors that the fight was off, tweeting defiantly: “You love to make s**t up before knowing the facts for clicks / likes. Nothing changed #PaulTyson.” However, this statement soon took on a hint of irony.
As the details of the postponement unfolded, both camps, along with MVP, Jake Paul’s promotion company, put out statements to keep fans in the loop.
Mike Tyson reached out to his supporters saying, “I want to thank my fans around the world for their support and understanding during this time. Unfortunately, due to my ulcer flareup, I have been advised by my doctor to lighten my training for a few weeks to rest and recover.”
“My body is in better overall shape than it has been since the 1990s and I will be back to my full training schedule soon. Jake Paul, this may have bought you some time, but in the end you will still be knocked out and out of boxing for good,” Tyson continued, throwing a verbal jab. “I appreciate everyone’s patience and can’t wait to deliver an unforgettable performance later this year.”
Jake Paul also chimed in: “I fully support postponing the event so Mike Tyson has no excuses come fight night. My fans know I don’t want to face Iron Mike at anything but his best, but let there be no mistake – when he steps into the ring with me, I will be ready to claim my W with a sensational finish.”
“Paul vs Tyson will be one for the ages, and I promise to bring my best for this once-in-a-lifetime matchup,” he assured eagerly.
MVP, bringing clarity to the decision, shared: “The upcoming highly anticipated boxing match between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson will unfortunately be postponed.”
“During a follow up consultation on Thursday with medical professionals on his recent ulcer flare up, the recommendation is for Mike Tyson to do minimal to light training over the next few weeks and then return to full training with no limitations.”
“Both Mike and Jake are in agreement that it is only fair to ensure that both athletes have equal training time to prepare for this important match and are able to compete at the highest level.”
“The health and well-being of athletes is our top priority, and we fully support Mike in taking the necessary time to allow him to perform at the level he expects of himself.”
So, while we’ll have to wait a little longer for this epic bout, it sounds like it will be well worth the wait. Here’s to hoping both fighters are at their best when they finally step into the ring!
