Miley Cyrus reveals true reason for engagement was to tackle strange phobia impacting her daily life

Miley Cyrus has recently shared an unusual reason for her decision to get engaged again, and it involves a peculiar phobia.

The ‘Flowers’ singer has experienced a tumultuous journey in her romantic life. She has been linked to several famous personalities including singer-actor Nick Jonas, actor Patrick Schwarzenegger, model Stella Maxwell, and Australian singer Cody Simpson. Notably, she had a well-publicized on-and-off relationship with her former husband, Liam Hemsworth.

Cyrus and Hemsworth first crossed paths in 2009 during the filming of The Last Song. They got engaged for the first time in 2012, broke up, and then reunited in 2016.

After the tragic loss of their home in the Woolsey fire in California, Cyrus and Hemsworth decided to marry on December 23, 2018, in a private ceremony in Nashville.

Unfortunately, their marriage was short-lived, as they separated less than a year later. The divorce was finalized on January 28, 2020.

The 33-year-old star has since found joy with musician Maxx Morando, whom she began seeing in 2021. Cyrus recently disclosed that they are engaged, with Morando proposing just before Christmas while on a trip to Japan.

In an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live this week, the Grammy winner humorously explained that her decision to marry again was influenced by her fiancé’s ability to help her manage her fear of paper.

“I hate paper,” she admitted, noting that even the sight of it makes her ‘want to vomit.’

“The real issue for me with paper arises when people with dry hands touch it. During Christmas, when it’s cold, everyone’s hands are dry, and they’re all handling paper,” Cyrus explained.

Even a ‘lovely letter’ causes her distress, as she struggles to open it.

“It’s a phobia, and I think I need help,” she confessed.

Cyrus mentioned that Amazon deliveries are especially problematic for her due to the packaging involved.

“Receiving an Amazon box is the worst because the cardboard is the most difficult to handle,” she said.

“It’s extra dry, and there’s packaging inside it. That’s really why I got engaged, because I have my fiancé open all the packages outside,” she quipped.

When Kimmel questioned how she plans to sign her marriage certificate, Cyrus responded that she has considered this.

The Disney alum said she likely won’t have an issue with it since it’s made of a specific type of paper and not cardboard.

“Anything with a smooth surface is better. From what I remember, the paper is waxed,” she joked, referencing her past marriage to Hemsworth. “But I smoked one of those imaginary joints, so I can’t really remember.”
