Modern Family child star looks unrecognizable six years after beloved sitcom ended

Jeremy Maguire has turned 15, leaving Modern Family fans stunned by how much the child star has changed.

Maguire, who played Joe Pritchett on the ABC sitcom, celebrated his birthday on August 10, according to posts circulating online. He was just four years old when he joined the show in 2015 for its seventh season.

The actor remained with Modern Family through its final season in 2020, appearing in 106 episodes total. He replaced Pierce Wallace in the role of Gloria and Jay Pritchett’s young son.

Fans took to Reddit to express their disbelief at his transformation. “Can’t believe how much Joe from Modern Family has grown up! Happy 15th to Jeremy Maguire!!!!” One user wrote on a Modern Family thread.

“Fifteen already?? I swear he was a toddler like two seasons ago,” said another commenter.

A third person said that Maguire “will always be a toddler to me.”

“Seeing the Modern Family kids grown up is making me feel ancient,” someone else quipped.

“Well this just made me feel old af,” echoed a different fan.

The general consensus among commenters was that learning Maguire’s age left them feeling the passage of time acutely.

Unlike many teenagers, Maguire maintains a relatively quiet presence on social media. He last posted to his Instagram page in January after visiting Disney World.

“It’s been a while since I’ve been here,” he wrote to his 251,000 followers. “I’m happy to herald in my new year here at @waltdisneyworld!! Hoping 2026 is the best year of them all.”

His other television credits include Turner & Hooch, The Last Ship, S.W.A.T., and General Hospital, per his IMDb page. He also appeared in the 2017 film I’m Not Here.

In a 2020 interview with Teens Wanna Know about the show’s finale, Maguire described the emotional final scenes. “Every cast and crew member and everyone else watching us film had tears in their eyes,” he said.

He also admitted the early call times were a struggle. “We would start work sometimes as early as 6:30 in the morning which means I had to be up even earlier than that to eat and get ready,” Maguire explained. “Who doesn’t want to stay in bed and stay all nice and warm, right?”

Still, he expressed gratitude for the experience. “I know it was a big opportunity for me to learn from such great people and I am so happy that I was a part of such a big popular show!” Maguire said.

In the viral moment that sparked this latest round of fan reactions, social media users shared recent photos of Maguire alongside his toddler-era appearances on the show. The contrast between his four-year-old self and his current teenage appearance proved jarring for longtime viewers of the sitcom. Modern Family ran for 11 seasons and 250 episodes before ending in April 2020. The series followed three related families living in suburban Los Angeles and won numerous Emmy and Golden Globe awards during its run.

There has not been an official Modern Family reunion episode since the show ended, though several cast members came together in 2024 for a WhatsApp advertisement. The ad featured Eric Stonestreet, Ty Burrell, Julie Bowen, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, and Sarah Hyland.
