The mother at the heart of a highly debated Netflix series has made a startling revelation about her participation in the show.
You may now be familiar with the name Kendra Licari, who has gained international attention after appearing in the documentary series “Unknown Number: The High School Catfish.”
The series explores the story of Kendra’s daughter, Lauryn, who was subjected to anonymous bullying. The show follows the investigation that led to the shocking discovery that Lauryn’s own mother was behind the harassment.
Kendra eventually pleaded guilty to two counts of stalking a minor, resulting in a sentence ranging from 19 months to five years in prison, handed down in March 2023.
She has since been released, regaining her freedom in August 2024.
During 2023 and 2024, the Licari family participated in the filming of “Unknown Number: The High School Catfish,” which premiered on Netflix on September 13.

While Kendra’s case received media coverage during her arrest and sentencing, the documentary has brought global attention to her story. As of now, the Netflix series has been viewed for nearly 42,000,000 hours worldwide, according to FlixPatrol.
Kendra was reportedly apprehensive about participating in the series, but ultimately found the experience enjoyable.
Skye Borgman, the director of “Unknown Number,” shared insights with Variety about why she believes Kendra agreed to appear on camera.
“She was nervous about going on camera, because just sitting down and telling your story is a nerve-racking thing sometimes,” Borgman explained.
“But she was so great, and she actually ended up really loving the experience. At the end of it, she said it was kind of fun.”
Borgman continued: “She laughed about things, and I think it was really an opportunity for her to think about things a little bit more in depth. Every time I would ask a question, she would really have to think about some things, and I think that was really good for her.”
While Kendra appeared to enjoy the documentary-making process, her participation was never guaranteed.
“It was a long process with Kendra,” Borgman previously shared with Tudum.
Ultimately, the opportunity to share her story from her perspective and allow Lauryn to witness this was a compelling reason for Kendra’s involvement.
“She wanted to do it, I think, for her daughter,” Borgman added.
“Unknown Number: The High School Catfish” is now available for streaming on Netflix.
