After enduring the heartbreaking loss of her daughter due to the catastrophic floods in Texas earlier this year, one mother claims she has received ‘proof’ that her daughter is now ‘with God.’
In July, eight-year-old Eloise Peck was participating in a Christian summer camp, Camp Mystic, when severe flooding struck Central Texas.
During the Fourth of July weekend, a month’s worth of rain fell in just a few hours, causing the Guadalupe River to overflow and flood the nearby areas.
As reported by CNN, the flood resulted in at least 135 fatalities, predominantly affecting the Kerr County area where Camp Mystic was located.
Among those who lost their lives, Eloise was one of 27 campers and counselors confirmed dead by Camp Mystic as of July 6.
A message on the camp’s website stated: “Camp Mystic is grieving the loss of 27 campers and counselors following the catastrophic flooding on the Guadalupe river.
“Our hearts are broken alongside our families that are enduring this unimaginable tragedy. We are praying for them constantly.”
Missy Peck was dealing with the unbearable grief of losing her young daughter when she witnessed what she interpreted as a sign from God.
In a conversation with NBC DFW, she shared: “We’d had a particularly emotional day and we were sitting at a bonfire, roasting marshmallows and talking, and I looked up in the sky and saw what could have only been described as God, the universe and Lulu [her nickname for Eloise] working together.
“There was an ‘E’ – a very clear ‘E’ in the sky, crystal blue.”
Missy wasn’t the only parent to experience what they perceived as a ‘sign’ from their child.
Nine-year-old Lila Bonner, Eloise’s best friend at the camp, also perished in the flooding.
Her mother, Caitlin Bonner, shared that she had ‘pleaded for a sign’ from the universe after the loss of her ‘Lailabug.’
“We got home and there were lady bugs all over our interior staircase inside. Not one, like 10, on the first day and we’ve had a few that lingered,” Bonner recounted to the news outlet.
“And then on the first day of school for Scarlet and Holden, Scarlet and I walked outside to take her picture where we’ve always taken it with Lila and I was so nervous and she was so brave and she goes, ‘Mom, Lila’s here!’ – and our whole front porch, like the awning, had like maybe 30 ladybugs.”
Both families of Eloise and Lila have now joined the Heaven’s 27 Foundation, which aims to enhance the safety of Texas campers through the enactment of the Heaven’s 27 Camp Safety Act.
This Act emphasizes prevention, detection, training, and response to create safer environments for camps and communities near the Guadalupe River.
“Nothing will bring these girls back. We recognize that,” Lila’s father, Blake Bonner, stated.
“We’re trying to honor their legacy and letting this tragedy be a catalyst for change.”
