Terrick El Guindy broke his silence on the death of his 6-year-old son Preston, who was accidentally struck by the bodybuilding judge’s Tesla Cybertruck outside their Southern California home.
El Guindy, 48, of Temecula, hit the boy just before 9 p.m. On Saturday while backing up on Brookhaven Court, near Highway 79, according to the California Highway Patrol. Preston was rushed to Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar but died that same night from his injuries.
The family called 911 immediately after the collision. El Guindy was questioned by authorities but was not arrested. A CHP spokesman confirmed the Cybertruck was not operating in autopilot mode at the time of the incident. It remains unclear whether any dashboard alerts notified El Guindy that his son was behind the vehicle.
“On Saturday night our sweet Preston was playing outside in his neighborhood and was accidentally struck by a moving vehicle,” family friend Stefanie Chesbro wrote on a GoFundMe page she created for the family. “His injuries were too great and Preston tragically passed away at the hospital with Mom by his side. His parents and sister, Scarlett, are left with the insurmountable tragedy that is losing their son and brother.”
Chesbro added: “To know Preston is to love him. Always with a smile on his face he brings joy to everyone in his life.”
The family noted in a social media post that Preston had just started first grade last month.
El Guindy serves as a judge for the world-famous Mr. Olympia competition, the premier event determining the top professional bodybuilders globally. Beyond his judging duties, he hosts Prime Time Muscle and Olympia TV, platforms where he delivers commentary and analysis on the bodybuilding industry.
He gained attention in 2024 for his praise of six-time Mr. Olympia winner Chris Bumstead upon the athlete’s retirement, comparing him to Arnold Schwarzenegger for his impact on the sport.
“Chris Bumstead has exploded the sport. Chris Bumstead has been a great, great role model for all of us. His journey is impeccable and we will remember him just like we remember Arnold Schwarzenegger,” El Guindy said following Bumstead’s retirement announcement.
The CHP continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding Preston’s death. The agency issued a formal statement extending sympathies to those affected.
“The CHP extends its condolences to the family and all those affected by this tragic loss,” the spokesman said.
El Guindy’s role at Mr. Olympia places him among the most visible figures in professional bodybuilding, where he has helped shape competition outcomes at the sport’s highest level. His broadcasting work has made him a regular voice for fans following major events and industry developments.
The GoFundMe organized by Chesbro aims to support the family as they face what she described as an insurmountable loss.
